Really bad trip to DW

Ok, we just got back from DW last night. This was our third Disney trip in as many years (2 to DW & 1 cruise), and most likely our last. Before I get into it, know this, my wife grew up going to Disney every year (she's been 30 times total) and I've been there about 5 times. We have two children who love all things Disney. So we are not negative people who went there looking to have a bad time. Quite the opposite, I REALLY needed and was looking forward to this vacation for a long time.
We stayed at the WL so I'll start with our experience there. I was amazed at check in to be treated like I was a homeless man trying to get a room at the Ritz . Every question I asked was answered with a smirk and one or two words max. I thought, "oh well, shake it off you're on vacation" and that's what I tried to do. But every CM at the WL I came into contact with for the entire week we stayed there was rude. And I don't mean rude by Disney standards, I mean rude. My last conversation with a CM at the WL came on the morning of our departure. The night before we (12 of us) went to the character dinner at the CP. Two of the children ate Mac and cheese and both were up all night vomiting and pooping. I approached the concierge and asked her what their policy was when a situation like this came up. I wasn't looking for something for nothing, I just wasn't thrilled about paying $100 for the privilege of cleaning up puke and poop all night. The concierge says "No Dr. note, no refund." I responded with "That's some fantastic customer service right there (referring to the attitude more than the policy)." She says "Yeah, well I'm real sorry you feel that way." I told her "Yes, I can see by the look on your face that you are very concerned with the feelings of your customers." She grinned that now familiar WL staff grin.
The parks were mobbed and it was hot. I obviously don't blame Disney for the weather and crowds, but they could have done a better job dealing with the crowds. I mean if you're willing to take all these people's money and let them into your parks billed as the most wonderful place on earth, at least come up with some kind of plan to ensure they have a good time. And if you don't, you shouldn't be surprised when they find another place to spend their vacation money. The lines were insane (2 hours to ride SM), and only being able to pull one fast pass at a time really doesn't help. Hungry? Lines for the overpriced, unhealthy counter service meals were at least 30-45 minutes.
I could on for hours about how incredibly let down I feel about spending $5K on what turned out to be a pretty miserable week, citing very specific reasons why I feel that way, but what's the point. I consider it a lesson learned. Next year we'll be vacationing somewhere else.

I just returned yesterday and I didn't find the parks crowded! We were in a park every day last week and never spent more than 20minutes in line. We did "bypass" a couple of attractions that had longer lines but the longest wait time listed was for Soarin' (60min). I find that usually the posted wait time is shorter than the actual wait time.
Perhaps we had the advantage of experience; we have visited 35+ times. Each and every time, we find something new to do, this year was no exception.
We had fun and we will be going back "real soon".
I am sorry that your experience was not as pleasant.

I guess timing really is everything. :confused3 Glad you had a good time. :thumbsup2

I am so sorry you had a horrible time, and I don't know how you controlled your temper w/ that NASTY CM? I guess complaining to management wouldn't have helped? I noticed this is your first post. Were you on the DIS before your trip? Or maybe TGM? I've heard there is definitely certain days to avoid certain parks no matter when you go. Planning is everything with Disney and even eating times need to be planned out. Maybe you'be been too many times! I've only been a couple and I probably plan too much!

I've lurked here a lot getting info for this past trip but never posted before.
I plan on writing a letter to management at WL re: the rude CM and copying a Disney World GM.
I guess the crowds really were a timing issue, and honestly, were it not for the WL cm, I doubt I'd be as upset as I am about the crowds.

I'm upset for you. I can just hear how she must have said it. You should have called Mousekeeping to clean up the vomit! That would show them! I would contact CP directly as well. That's scarey that your kids were so sick! Well, you've made me not want to stay at WL!!! It almost seems like the value resorts staff is friendlier!!! Again, so sorry for the disappointment.

Thanks for the kind words. We washed the sheets in the middle of the night because I didn't think mousekeeping should have to deal with that nightmare.
The last time we went, we stayed at Port Orleans and the staff was fantastic.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good trip - that's always a bummer.

I have to say that I noticed the crowd levels were much higher this October than last - we were at WDW for 10 days last year (10/18-10/28) and for 10 days this year (10/15-10/25) and the crowds were noticeably larger this year.

Also ... there must have been some kind of virus getting passed around (when isn't there, right?). My husband got sick on 10/19 with the same symptoms you mentioned and pretty much felt that way off and on for the last five days of our stay. No fun being a sickie at WDW.

Definitely write a letter - guest services is usually very responsive. Hope your next vacation is a better one, regardless of where you decide to go.

I'm sorry that you had such a horrible time. Not for nothing, but I had a similar experience with the dining at DW. It must be the preservatives that they use. We are now firm believers of staying off grounds and cooking alot of our meals and really limiting what we eat at DW.

I am sorry you had a bad time. I read that you said you were a lurker...
its too bad your first posts are about how you hated your trip because of some rude peope...
yet nothing else positive. :confused3

it just surprises me that you choose the trip reports board to post your first times and its basically one big complaint.
I can understand the need to vent, but this may not be the place for the most sympathy.

I hope you had some enjoyable moments on your long awaited trip. :guilty:

I'm sorry I picked the trip reports section of a Disney message board to post a report of a trip to Disney. I would hate to think I've clouded the judgment of a potential Disney visitor with a bit Disney criticism. Although I know I would have found a report like mine quite useful during the planning phase of my vacation. I'm really not interested in sympathy. I was merely sharing my most recent Disney experience.
Of course there were bright spots, I spent the week with my wife and children.

I think the problem is you posted nothing positive..did you have any good meals? What were your kids favorite rides? What was your favorite park?

I went in the summer everyone told me it would be miserable and guess what we had a blast. It was crowded but we knew that too.

Some of the issues should be dealt with but at least if you come to post a report post the GOOD and the BAD. And give support to other reports as well. Trips are not perfect we know that but to come and be so negative is a turn off.

Yetidave,

I would PM the moderators of this forum and have this moved to the resorts forum as it seems most (not all) of your CM issues stem from your stay at the WL. I would think folks would want to know about some of your issues.

So sorry to hear of the problems you encountered at WL. We have stayed there many times and have never been treated as you were. In fact, we bought our DVC membership at WL because of the laid back atmosphere, great service and friendly CMs.

Hope you were able to enjoy some of your trip when the family felt better.
