Reallocating Points

Can somebody answer this for me?

We have a 156 point stay coming up at RIV, it was booked at the 7 month mark. We have 3 contracts -- SSR1, SSR2, VDH. We have more than enough points in SSR1 (192, 102 of which expire) and SSR2 (56, none expire) to cover the 156 points, but when I go to rebook (so I can free up 29 VDH points) it marks all 3 contracts as padlocked and required. Since VDH has banked points it is pulling from there for 29 of the points.

I am sure I can contact MS tomorrow to get them reallocated for me, but it'd be nice to be able to do it myself. I don't understand the fact that the contracts are padlocked when the total points is far less than the combined total that I have available from SSR1 and SSR2.

We need the 29 points for next year so we can go back to VDH.

Do all 3 contracts have access to RIV, and all 3 on the same membership number?

I remember there was a problem with some resale contracts being glitched, that required a call to MS for 7 month window. Not sure if that was fixed.

Just noticed a 7 month booking at VGF is doing the same thing. I'm wondering if there is a bug where an 11 month booking that is then modified at / inside of 7 months is retaining the contract lock online.

I had a similar situation recently where it showed my SSR contract locked for a AKV booking made at 7 months. However, I went through the modify process online and it pulled points from a different contract with banked points despite the first contract being locked.. so I think it’s just a glitch

My problem is I don't want it to pull the banked points from the VDH contract. I want it to pull current UY (well same UY as the reservation) points from SSR instead of banked from VDH but since I can't uncheck the contract it will automatically pull the VDH banked points first.

Was this a modification of a reservation that was booked during the 11 month window? If you book a home resort, modify at 7 months, I find that the contracts stay locked, including sometimes the new ones used if you had them checked when you went and booked it.

The only way to change it on your own is to book a new reservation for the same room, which isn't always possible because the dates are gone. You will have to wait for MS to do it for you.

Thanks, guess it is a bug (yes, we booked SSR @ 11 months and then switched to RIV for most of it at 6+ months). We then waitlisted a couple of nights and then MS combined the reservations once that came through.

As long as MS can fix it we will be fine. Our 11 month window doesn't open until toward the end of July.

MS Chat took care of this in about 5 minutes this morning. I'm going to run into the same situation if our Christmas stay changes since it too has a padlock on the VDH contract, but I assume they'll be able to fix that as well.

Thanks for sharing! I have to wonder if the reason it is set that way is to ensure that no one can swap out home resort points for non home resort points for an 11 month booking, even though the resort is being changed.

That's my guess, it's just unfortunate IT can't figure out a way to program it to say if < 7 months and a new resort or availability exists at current resort then any contract is valid.

ETA: I'm actually not sure that makes sense. If it wanted to lock me out of contract swapping then the VDH one shouldn't have been an option at all. It was an 11 month reservation at SSR modified at 7 months. So the VDH wasn't valid at 11 months.

With what I have seen is that not only the contracts used at 11 month stay locked when you modify, but so does any new contracts checked….

So, if I used my RIV and then modify to pick up my VGF points, it locks both of them. At least it is an easy fix for MS.

That makes sense. I don't recall if I checked the VDH contract on the Christmas stay (VGF), but I imagine I did check it on the RIV stay. We had thought we would take 2 years between VDH stays so I probably had it use the banked points but we enjoyed it so much we want to go back next summer.
