Reallocate Points Question

Question for the experts. I am looking at buying a resale contract that has a Feb UY and has 2015 points banked into 2016. As I understand it, those banked points must be used by jan 31, 2017. I have a reservation booked for August 2016 and October 2016 using a different contract. If this resale passed ROFR is there some way that I could use those 2015 resale points for my current reservation and then potentially bank the points that are tied up in a reservation right now? I"m trying to decide if this resale is worth the money. If I can use the 2015 points it is a good deal. If I can't use the points and they expire the resale is not worth it to me. Thanks for any insight.

I have found that it depends on the MS CM. I have met resistance with some and they insist on canceling the original reservation and they try to create a new one. Others just swap the points somehow.

If it's the same home resort and under the same master I'd say it's possible but hit or miss. If it's a separate master contract it should be a cancelation and rebooking. However, it's possible to do the same thing in many situations booking under the new contract and then cancelling the old reservation. To use banked points from both you'll either need to have them under one master or 2 separate reservations that could be linked. Or you'd need to get them to transfer the points which they will often do in this situation even though the rules say banked points can't be transferred.

If it's the same UY where it would be an add on to your existing contract then depending on if you booked your existing reservations during the home priority or at 7 months and if it's the same home resort then MS will re-allocate. Now, if it's a different resort and you booked in the home priority, then MS should not do it.

Interesting, thanks!

And if they do cancel the original reservation and try to create a new one, there's always the risk that those dates may no longer be available, correct?

Yes, that's correct.

I just pulled the trigger on a direct Poly contract.
I have a existing SSR resale contract and a June UY. Im getting 2015 points with the new purchase, which the guide assured me I could bank even though the deadline long passed, and he told me 3 times that I could swap those banked points out for a reservation I currently have. I dunno if this is becuase I bought direct this time but I hope he is not full of it.

Since you are paying a premium, I would have the guide bank and reallocate the points. You are getting 2015 points because you are still in your 2015 UY.
