Real ID delayed again

How big are people's wallets that passports are so easy to carry? The advantage (to me) of the real ID is it not only works as a DL, but it fits in my wallet.

To say nothing about the ability to travel internationally isn't that important to many. Flying to see family a couple states away, much more so.
They could also get a passport card - so not really an issue. I get the full passport b/c I may want to go elsewhere besides Canada or Mexico.

Passport card = more money. And doesn't work as a DL, so you'd need to carry two cards.

Ahhh but I did when my name changed to my married name. I had to mail in a certified copy of my marriage license along with my passport that had my maiden name. I got that in 2018 (original passport issued in 2013).
That is weird. I have been married 27 years and got my first passport about 11 years ago. I renewed last year. When I got my original passport, they did not ask for my marriage license. I have no idea where it even is because the last time anyone asked for it was right after I got married and changed my SS card. I even went and got TSA pre check 7 years ago and they didn't ask for any of that either.

You got your passport after you got married. The poster you quoted got her passport before she got married. She mailed a copy of her marriage certificates in order to change the name on her passport to her married name.

Your circumstances are completely different.

But when you apply for your first passport, they ask for a birth certificate to prove citizenship. That would be in the maiden name if the applicant was married at the time of application. The DOS would want to see a marriage license to show the change of name to issue the passport in the married name? No?

Yes, based on our personal experience. DW already had a passport in her maiden name when we were married. When we were getting passports for our first international trip about 10 years later, she had to submit the expired passport along with a certified copy of our marriage record to document the name change.

Just a retirement heads up. When you apply for Social Security retirement benefits, you’ll need to submit your marriage certificate to be evaluated on his earnings.

But the government already has that info. LOL I don't know anyone that had to do that. No one in my family has had to. My grandparents got married in Germany after the war and no one asked my grandma for that info when she applied for her benefits.

well, my wife applied recently and they wanted the original or certified copy sent in. They do send the documents back.

It does say that they "may" ask. I don't think that they do for everyone.
Correct, just depends on what documentation/records they have of the person but they may need to see it. Not everyone changes their name when they get married, some may be using their married name but have not legally changed it, etc.

If you think you may have issues locating your marriage certificate at your house check the county where you got married (assuming it was in the U.S.). While I can view mine online (as it's public record) it is not a certified copy. I however can either go in person to the courthouse to get it (which I live close enough that I can) and get one or I can request to have it mailed to me.
