Okay, I have googled and searched for hours so I decided to turn to the almighty Dis for guidance. :thumbsup2

Background: My home sits in a flood zone. Unfortunately we have flooded numerous times. And the more development that is occuring upstream is causing flooding to happen more and more frequently.

The state of NJ has developed a program called Blue Acres that buys out homes in flood prone areas (once they actually get money from the State :rotfl:). Anyway, I am in the process of submitting an application. I have my full history of flooding from the time I purchased the home but am looking for flood history on the structure itself. The home is about 100 years old so there is definitely history. I would think that this information should be cataloged somewhere, I just don't know where.

Can anyone of you real estate buffs point me in the right direction? I'll dig for it but I'm stumped as to where to look. I've checked FEMA and can't find. I have an email out to my insurance agent hoping that she might know. I think the next step might be to contact a friend that is a real estate agent.
Any guidance oh great wise Dis'ers?

can you find out from the realtor you purchased through who was the insurer for the prior owner? then you might be able to find out if they put in any claims.

i don't know what r.e. disclosure laws are like in n.j., but in california we would have had to disclose this when we sold, and that requirement went back decades so if a person could trace back ownership and sale to sale-they might be able to see what was disclosed with each ownership transfer.

I know it flooded 2 years prior to us buying it but I believe before than was like 30 years or something. I don't know how long the disclosure period is.
Good idea about the realtor. He may be able to help us.
Thanks.
