Ready for flames -- we hated the WL!

:wave2: Hi Mainebound................

Sorry you had those problems at the WL. As much as I love the WL, if I had the experience you did, it would have left a sour taste in my mouth also.

When we stayed there, it was Christmas time (off season) and we had a "true" woodsview without our door overlooking the lobby. The other time we were in a courtyard view (my favorite view). We had an awesome time. We do need a little more space than that now.

But I read on the Orlando boards how awesome your pool home was. That's great!! At least now you know where you are most comfortable. So glad that worked out for you. :flower:

LOL - - Candy, don't try 50sPTC at Studios, then!!!
I have been to 50s PTC and i would just like to say i had a great time.but i can tell the difference between being rude and having fun.

I stayed at WL this past July and i didn't like it either...didn't have any problems really just didn't care for the boat ride to MK and then sharing a bus with FW and GF....

Stayed at the WL for 4 nights this past January and totally loved the place. As a matter of fact loved it so much, spousal unit and myself are headed back there on 5/7/05 for 5 nights. Sorry to hear about the " bad trips"...hopefully it was not the norm....

And I'm saying that you get what you pay for. Don't expect the same experience at the WL that you would get at the GF or Poly or other high end resort. The reason why AKL ahd the WL are cheaper is because of their lack of amenities including room size, pool, transportation, and restaurant choices. And you are correct about AKL. Paying $279 is not a lot especially when comparing against the other resorts.

I'm paying more to stay at the VWL and the AKL than my GF room

I am talking about regular pricing for regular rooms at the resorts. Not staying on DVC points, not using AP rates, or other discounts. Comparing Disney's pricing for each hotel and that is what it boils down to. If Disney thought the WL was a true deluxe, you better believe the regular prices would be higher. They practically give the WL rooms away when the deals come out. I could have had the GF cheaper then the Poly last May. That was only because there were AP rates left for the GF and none for the Poly. What YOU can get the room for has no bearing in what I ws talking about.

 Hmmm.....I consider AKL's pool , hot tubs and Tiki Bar to be one of the nicest at WDW.Granted, the rooms are smaller....but you get a queen bed, vs a full in the moderates. I think they are both wonderful resorts....and their lobby doesn't have that funny smell that the Poly has. :earseek:

I am so sorry you had a bad time . We love it there, I have stayed there a few times and have loved it everytime . I have never stayed over the WCC but we have eaten there for years so I can only imagine the noise coming from there. We always stay on the 7th floor and I guess we are spoiled because we have suchgreat CMs up there. I hope you will give it a try again in off season . I always go in Oct it is nice and not very crowded at that time .

Of course it's relative!!! I was quoted a price of $129 for the mods. The point is, it is billed as a deluxe, as is AKL which is in the same price category. I have never stayed at WL, and have found AKL to be a deluxe at $279, which I did NOT find to be a lot because it was a deluxe experience. I am just saying that it is touted as a deluxe so I sure hope that it is. Sheesh.
LOL..I paid $129 last May for the WL...see...It would KILL me to pay $129 for a hotel that has outside doors and no balcony to sit on.

I think people make what they want from a trip....after a bad stay at CR once, I SWORE it was the worst resort in the world and the toaster should be torn down.....I stayed there again in November because I got a $139.00 rate and couldn't get into WL for that..I couldn't pass it up and I LOVED IT!!! Everything was perfect...so, one bad trip doesn't mean the resort is crap.

I have stayed in the Lobby rooms, never heard a peep...I have seen the kids running around the Lobby on sugar-highs..hey, it's Disney, that stuff happens..sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, but I learned that it just isn't worth it to sweat the small stuff.

If you don't mind could you tell me where you got that rate for CR? We are trying to decide on a resort for our next stay and always thought CR was higher than that. We would be staying during value season July 2005.

We are thinking about upgrading from the CBR to the WL, bacause all the preferred locations are booked at CBR, but we really cant afford more than the standard view location, but we dont want to hear a bunch of noise from the restaurant, any suggestions when making the reservation about where we want to stay at WL, All the pictures look great, but just not sure if this is the right choice for us

If you didn't like it, you didn't like it. No big deal. Some of us like beef and some of us like chicken. Doesn't mean there's a right or a wrong to it, it's just what you like. Good luck on your next trip!

That's funny ! :rotfl2: Your theme though, "Lighten up it's a vacation" is a mantra we should all have. Yes we're spending lots of money, but we are going to a family resort, geared to kids and kids at heart. Going to have to expect some commotion. I'm less worried about the kids on the sugar highs than I am the parents on the caffiene highs running the commando vacation squad !!!

For all of those who don't care for WL, here's a word of caution: Stay away from the Old Faithfull Inn at Yellowstone National Park. We're huge WL fans, stay there at our VWL (anyone comparing WDW "villas" with "standard rooms" is out in left-field) four weeks at a stretch. Fabulous place. Agree Whispering Canyon uproar is out-of-control & should be cut way back. Other than that, the WL is so superior to the Old Faithful Inn it's not funny! So take heed!

We are WL fans too but stay in the villas with DVC and away from the noise. Sorry you had a bad experience.

We stay at Ft. W., but frequently boat over to WL to eat, and have to say we love the look of the public areas.

One idea I found worked last summer when we were there during "hurricane hullaballoo", everytime I wanted to complain or even just get firm info from a CM I went in person, with a small notepad and pen, and politely wrote down, in front of them, their name, asked them the time and noted that, and took notes on exactly what they told me. I did so politely, with a smile, but they seemed to take me more seriously. I had EXCELLENT communication with the supervisor of FW, and I really think it was because I used this tactic. (I made sure to email when I got home with the good, too.)

John Dobbertin,
Why did you say stay away from Old Faithful Inn? I truly do not understand why anyone would stay at WL when Old Faithful Inn is available. Absolutely beautiful, REAL geysers, and one of the great hotels...AND $144/night during high season. The hiking, scenery, and animals make it a great vacation. We stayed there last summer and adored it...we really want to go back to Yellowstone in the winter, but would have to stay at the lodge because the Inn isn't open.

Wide Awake: Did you stay in the "true" part of the Inn at Old Faithful -- the rooms in the "main" or "original" lodge . . . or did you stay in the "annex" (which was built later)? Big difference. True Old Faithful followers always stay in the original lodge with the bathroom (for what it is) down the hall. I'm sure that's what you do?
