14. Story of My Life by Lucy Score. Funny, well written romance novel.

I got a Kindle for my birthday, but I haven't figured it out yet and don't know if it's worth getting a Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I'm picky about the books I want to read. I tried Kindle Unlimited for about a month and I didn't care for what was offered. But, for my dad, he will read anything so it's good for him.

I just have the Libby app, attached to my library card, and I download books from the library. I often have to wait a long time for really popular books but I have so many on hold that something is always coming in.

I got a Kindle for my birthday, but I haven't figured it out yet and don't know if it's worth getting a Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Get to know Libby. I have found a way to get 3 different library cards so I can reserve (i.e. get on the wait list) for up to 10 books at each. When I find something of interest, like when I read through the recommendations here, I reserve that book. It can be weeks or months before it comes available but that's ok. If you are in the middle of reading something when it comes available you can keep your place in line and pass it on to the next person. You can also just sort through the titles that are available now and find a good read that way too. Not sure what I would do with a Kindle Unlimited subscription as I always have something to read.

The other tip with Libby, recently discovered, is you can borrow and play audiobooks directly through the Libby app. Audio books tend to have better availability too.

One final thing; if you have a simpler Kindle like a paperwhite, you can download from Libby, turn on airplane mode and keep the book indefinitely. That helps if you are really close to finishing a book that is in high demand when it comes due. That will limit you to just the book you have downloaded however. I found this does not work on a Kindle Fire. Kindle books are downloaded to all your devices you have set up on Amazon so you can switch between devices and it keeps track of where you are (wifi has to be on for that though). I had a really hard time switching from paper to Kindle, but now I'd have a hard time switching back I like it so much.

Dakiti did not grab me and took a long time to finish because I kept reading other stuff instead. Secret Live of Color was originally a magazine series. It's a history of dozens of color variants - how they got their names, how dye and paint makers discovered how to produce them, how culture reacts to color and shapes our views of it. Carpathians is so close to being a great first contact story but loses focus on the plot in favor of a blandly predictable message. Trunk Music is my favorite Bosch to date. A murder mystery that closes in on an apparent solution very early, so you know there has to be much more going on than anyone knows and the fun is watching that unfold.

Take a look at the titles to decide if its worth it to you. Your Kindle probably came with a 3 months for 99 cents per month offer. Try for 3 months to see if it's worth it.

I only use it when I have an offer for cheaper months. I use libby and another site to get my books now.

#32 - Great Big Beautiful Life by by Emily Henry Two writers compete for the chance to tell the larger-than-life story of a woman with more than a couple of plot twists up her sleeve.

I mostly enjoyed this book. Took me a while to finish though so not sure what that says about how much I actually enjoyed it. I usually fly through books but this one took a week. I guess I enjoyed it but didn't have a burning need to read every chance I got.

I go on vacation tomorrow so might take a week off, or only read on the flights to/from. We shall see. I'm not sure I can go a whole week without reading.

49/50 “Rebecca’s Bouquet” by Lisa Jones Baker.
It’s an Amish themed Book and it deals with the choice of staying Amish or becoming English in a way that seems plausible to me. 4/5

25/30 Maine Characters by Hannah Orenstein

Thirty years of family secrets. Two sisters who have never met. One summer to unravel it all.

This is described as “a grown up Parent Trap, only with affairs and great wine.” The Parent Trap reference sucked me in. I enjoyed the Maine lake setting and the story was good enough to keep me interested.

#28 The Unusual Second Life of Thomas Weaver by Shawn Inmon. The book was underwhelming. A few intense parts, and a good premise, but it fell flat with me.

This is the second book in the Tommy and Tuppence series. It is a series of short stories, each a chapter or two long. This is an enjoyable mystery.

This was a pretty good thriller. I enjoyed it.

#30-"Mrs Quinn's Rise to Fame", Olivia Ford, 4 stars. Just a nice, feel-good book about a woman who feels like life is passing her by, so she wants to make her mark and applies to be on a cooking show. It helped my enjoyment that I like cooking shows.

#32-"Atmosphere", Taylor Jenkins Reed, 4 stars. Parts of it were excellent, parts I could do without. I won't say much because I don't want to spoil it, but the early days of women in the space program was fascinating, other parts not at all interesting.
