Reading, seeing and hearing Part 3

This seems to resemble some of us. Just sadin'.

Andy Rooney says: As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:
A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's usually something more interesting.

A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40 give a hoot what you might think about her or what she's doing.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated.
A woman over 40 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over 40 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she knows her friends won't betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. They always know.
A woman over 40 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not true of younger women. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 40+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.
For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free", here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage ,why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage!!

Oh no, you didn't miss anything. I had just concurred, way back when, that we do like Biltmore Estate wines. And that we love (next to WDW) the mountains of WNC. We haven't been to NC in... let's see... 2 years. I think. So I am pretty sure you aren't missing a trippie from me!! :)

Hi guys!

Yep Rhonda...my last day of work :)
I don't really wanna work.

Sorry but I don't have a Maelstrom buddy that will be able to post pictures.
You guys are going to have to wait until Tuesday night or Wednesday evening before I can get things uploaded.

We are going to go for a ride and perhaps go to Hershey Park.
We shall see where the road takes us.

Darn! You noticed. Umm, let's just say my skills don't match my superyduperysecretagent status. I'm working on it, though. . .
Most Canons get high marks all around, but their cost is usually more than Panasonics. Given my relatively crappy skills, I couldn't see dropping extra dough on a more expensive model. Plus, mine has the image stabilizer ability; not sure if the comparable Canon does. However, a decently priced Canon with image stabilizer, good zoom capability, and the ability to use cheaper batteries in a pinch would be a good choice I'm thinkin'.

We just got the Canon A620 and love it! Awesome and only at $221 from Amazon with free shipping, didn't seem too pricey to me....Guess Virginians are really cheapskates.....

Hi all. Drive by posting. Trying to catch up which is next to impossible. I owe a lot of phonecalls and emails and pms....working through that.

will be :sunny: tonight I think.

LYMI to all :yay:

This is almost as funny as the sausage :rotfl: Just saying

Kimmie,

I just have to say that I am NOT over 40 (still have a few years to go) and I am just like the Andy Rooney quotes!!! Funny though!

Maaavalous pictures from everyone!!

Sid, we'll be thinking of you and this family.

Horsey, good to see you back! You've been missed.

Lou, glad you're having a wonderful time. Now, get off the computer and actually go to the parks. You did pay for that you know!

Minnie Moo, glad to see you back too. You've also been missed.

Jen, keep that fluttery feeling. It's a good thing to have! Hope it rains on your wedding day! (That's for good luck!!! I am not wishing bad things! Just a little not a lot!) It rained on mine and we've been together 12 years so far.

I'm sure I"ve missed something but oh well. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Not sure if this helps any of you or not with your October-December travels....

Disney just released a code using a Disney Visa. It must be used on a package though. We are still waiting on AP codes so we didn't book :hourglass

The info is on mousesavers.com.

Well, I don't know how far we are. We weren't on page one.

So, I'm turning the page.

HORSEY ~ Again, so happy to see you again!!

Hey Sid - and everyone else. AND HORSEY - HEY WOMAN!

I WAS on the phone last night for almost 3 hours dealing with a person who has experienced much the same thing as you Sid. His fiance' was killed a little over 2 months ago in a tragic accident. She was in her early 20s as is he. He's having a hard time dealing with it, as you might imagine.

I will certainly be praying for your friends and for the family of the young man who was killed. I think it was Chris who called the whole thing senseless. And I agree. The problem is that we, in our humanness, try to make sense out of things that just don't often make sense. We try to find someone to blame. The other person, ourselves, the maker of the car company. And inevitably we come back to blaming the one person who can give us the most help in these situations - God.

The simple fact is that getting into a car is dangerous. What happened to your friends yesterday could happen to any one of us every single time we get into a car. Those things are dangerous. I have found it interesting that when a person tries to ram a police car in one of those chases you see on TV, that they get charged with assault with a deadly weapon. As convenient as they are, cars are simply deadly weapons with the potential to kill every time they are driven.

That having been said, I think it doesn't do us much good to try and find someone to blame. The place where we can start healing is when we starting asking "What do I do now?" And "Where is God in this now?"

Now I realize that not everyone on here, as I've said before, believes like I do. I'm not foolish enough to think that everyone reading these threads is a Christian. I also know that I am as fallible as anyone else. So hear this from a sinner who has been called to try and equip other sinners to be what God wants them to be. If you're offended by hearing something from a CHristian preacher - then stop reading this now.

There's a story in Luke's Gospel where Jesus' close friend Lazarus dies. His sisters, Mary and Martha sent word to Jesus for him to come. When he got there, first one sister came up and said, "Jesus, if you had been here, he would not have died." WHen he got to the tomb where Lazarus was buried, the other sister comes up and says the exact same thing - "Jesus, if you had been here, he would not have died."

Both of those women made statements of anger. Behind them are words of accusation - why didn't you come when we called for you. You sorry thing. I think Jesus understood this too. However, there's also a statement of faith in their words as well - they confessed their knowledge that Jesus had the power to heal their brother. In their very accusation, they made a statement of faith.

In the same story, you have the verse that every child wants to memorize - just 2 words - Jesus Wept. He saw their hurt, and hurt right along with them. I think there is power in that. When we hurt, he hurts.

I do not believe that God is in the business of killing people in car wrecks. We have the technology to do amazing things. The concept of a big hunk of metal that can use a liquid to make wheels turn and carry folks from place to place is pretty amazing when you think about it. But, it is certainly dangerous. Do I believe that God has the power to stop accidents from happening? Sure I do. For whatever reason, however, things happen. Accidents happen - that is why they are called accidents - we don't mean for them to happen, or plan for them. I don't believe God causes one car to hit another, just like I don't believe God cause those planes to fly into the Trade Towers on Sept. 11th.

I believe we have to change the question that we normally ask. The question we ask is always "why". If we can get to the point where we can instead ask, "Where are you now?" Then we can begin to heal. When Jesus arrived on the scene, he brought healing - Lazarus came back from the dead. It would be nice if that happened in every situation like this of tragedy. But it just doesn't. If we can look for God in the aftermath of tragedy, we will always find him. In the presence of friends. In the little coincidences that happen.

For instance. This young man I talked with last night. He was in my heart on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago. I called him. Had not spoken with him for some time. That day was their anniversary. I had no idea. And yet he was in my heart on that day. He told me last night that ever since then, he has been thinking about calling me. And finally did last night. Rhonda and Wesley both were in bed way early last night. I had no meeting, and no distraction and could focus that almost 3 hours right on him.

I see that as GOd working stuff out so that good things can happen.

Sid, I am very sorry for what your friends and you are going through. It is very difficult. Hold on to each other, and healing will come. Try to determine where God is now in all of that. It's pointless to try and pass blame and determine why it happened. Frankly, as I said, it could happen to any one of us. But if we can look for God in the aftermath of tragedy, we will find him. Often its in the touch of a loved one, or a silent whisper that we might too often ignore.

I'm through preaching now.

Blessings!

Marky Mark: That was, well....very touching. As always. You have a way with words of wisdom, MM. Maybe you should quit your day job and become a minister. I bet you'd be good at it.

Horsey: Let me know what time you can make it to :sunny: and I will try my best to be there.

Sid: :grouphug:

PongoBabyPongoGirl: I am so excited for you. Relish this time. Many years down the road you'll both look back on this time in your lives and it will never cease to bring a smile to your faces.

Good luck PongoBaby! Flutter away.
