My tickets are not good for my January trip. TransMeridian Air is filing bankruptcy. I'm not sure how were going to afford to go now. I hope no one else is using this airline. Tina :(

I booked my airfare on Song airlines last January for our Oct trip. Then in the summer, Song pulled all flights out of Newark airport. Arrrgghh! I couldn't find seats on nonstop flights on my days....wound up having to extend the trip by three days to accomodate the need to fly nonstop! I've heard today that other airlines are cancelling several flights because of the high cost of jet fuel.

This doesn't look like were getting any refund. And now I'm wondering if its safe to buy more airfair? Besides I'm not sure if we can afford it. Tina

Tina - TMA flew out of our local airport also, and the press release we were e-mailed today stated that those who request one will get a 100% refund. Good luck and sorry this happened to you.

Tina, I'm hoping you paid with a credit (not a debit) card. All you have to do is call your credit card company and most likely you will have your money refunded to you.

Tina-

Contact your credit card company. They may refund, as services were paid for but not provided. Sending pixie dust your way. Good luck!

because this happened to us with southeast last yr... i called my bank and they have a special person that can handle "visa" logo debit cards, if the transaction failed, meaning you did not get what you pd for,you will get it all back,
1 file a claim at your bank
2 make tons of copies of bank statements showing the charges out of your account
3 make a copy of the web-site message because it changes every day...
4 make copy of your ressies
and good luck..
if we did not get the refund we would not have been able to fly TMA...

Thanks everyone. said nothing about a refund. There's just a number to call, with a recording stating there filing and you should call your credit card company. Thanks everyone once again for all the support and help. Tina

Assuming you can get your money refunded, try Spirit Airlines out of Detroit (DTW.) Prices are comparable to TMA, and service into MCO insures that you can use Disney's free Magical Express transportation service rather than renting a car.

I wanted to add that Spirit is a great discount airline. We have flown with them many times without problems. Sorry to hear what happened. Like others already said, call your credit card company. I really hope you're able to still go.

Hi Tina,

I work for a financial institution and we were just notified of this problem. All you have to do is dispute the charge from TMA if you used your credit or debit card to pay for the airline tickets. You should receive a full refund in a couple days.

Hope this helps.

;)

I feel for anyone in this situation. We went into a complete panic last year when Southeast stopped flights. It was less than a month from our trip and my parents were supposed to be flying with them. I found out here on the DIS and they didn't even know. All worked out though as they got a flight on another airline and it didn't cause any problems. They also got their money back from Southeast.

We flew Spirit once many years ago...no problems at all!

Good luck finding new flights...I'm sure it will work out in the end.

We almost always fly Spirit. Every time I checked flights they were more money than Northwest. What are you going to do. I keep hearing the new bankruptcy laws are taking affect Oct 17? If this is so then we may be seeing more companys jumping on the band wagon. Thanks everyone for all the support and info. I'll keep everyone updated. Tina

Called my visa today. They said there recieving lots of calls from customers due to the airlines closing. There sending me paperwork to fill out and return to fill a dispute. It didn't sound very promising. Today I searched the net on the subject. They stranded quite a few people. I'm feel worse for those on vacation trying to get home right now with no airfair. Can you imagine going to the airport to find out you no longer have airfair. Sorry just venting Tina

Good luck, I hope eveything works out well for you. We booked SWA because of the price but also because it seemed to be about the safest low fare carrier.

John

For everyone's info the following have filed for bankrupcy (in alphabetical order for no bias just in case):
Delta, Northwest, United (almost out of bankrupt status), and US Airways (almost out due to merger with America West). Independence Air is cutting services from quite a few west coast cities as well to save costs.
Always buy air tickets with a major credit card to allow for the possiblity for refund due to total termination of an airline. Consider buying travel insurance, but make sure the insurance covers bankrupt costs, or if it will cover your costs if your buying a ticket on an already filed bankrupt airline. I believe under government law, other airlines are supposed to pick up canceled schedules, but normally it's on a standby only status.
