"Disney surprised Wall Street with the resiliency of its theme-park and resort business in the fiscal second quarter. Revenue for the unit jumped 11% in the quarter. Results were aided by a boost in international visitors taking advantage of the weak dollar.

"Also, the early Easter holiday helped results in the quarter. Perceptions of the cost of a Disney family vacation as an affordable alternative have also helped attendance figures.

"Indeed, roughly three-quarters of the firm’s rooms at its resorts are considered 'moderate' or 'value' priced. Thus, the parks may actually be benefiting from a more value-oriented vacationing public.

Think it is kind of ironic that Disney is booming because it's a cheaper way for families to spend their vacation!!
We just returned from our first ever WDW family vacation and were indeed surprised how "affordable" (relatively) it was.

Do the economic stimulus refund checks have any impact? That's where ours is going. Although we were already planning to go before the checks came. Just makes it that much easier on the bank account. And we feel we are doing our patriotic duty. :rotfl:

that's how I spent mine!

Many of us have said this all along. Just try pricing a nice vacation in NYC or Chicago. :scared1:
Even more recent have been others pricing seashore vacations only to find WDW is a bargain in comparison.

1) I do agree.
2) If planned well, a WDW vacation can, indeed, be affordable.

DH and I are planning a trip for our tenth wedding annivesary for next year. We just might be going to WDW without the kids. It's cheaper to fly there and stay for 5 days than it is to go on a cruise that leaves out of Bayone, NJ to Bermuda for 5 days. At WDW we can actually afford to do some grown up things. On the ship, not gonna happen. Now if we can just find someone to unload the 4 kids on for 5 days! Any takers?:rotfl2:

..........and thus the parks have become so crowded, we rarely go anymore, and we only live up the road apiece. :sad2:

You're from Canada, right?

when was the last time the Canadian dollar was worth SO much against the US (so called) dollar?

Ah I get it... I actually paid off most of our vacation last November when our Dollar was worth almost $1.10 US. Huge unexpected bonus for our family.

also...
to answer your question literally the last time the Canadain Dollar was on par with the US was April 1974
