We'll be staying for 8 nights (6/9 - 6/17). It is our first onsite trip to Universal. We are looking forward to the less intense pace than WDW and having time to enjoy the resort. We are delighted to hear about pool-hopping :cool1:. That will make it even more fun!
Questions:
The coffee pods are for regular coffee and tea correct? Or do they have Latte's etc?

How much is the parking fee currently?

Has anybody been to the lighting of the Tikki torches? Is it worth the time to plan it into our schedule?

What about the Musica del Notte? Is it worth going over to the Portofino to watch this? (My daughter is an Opera Geek). Any tips about what time to be there and where to sit?

We are a little concerned about being crowded in our room- we usually stay at places like Embassy Suites etc but couldn't resist the convenience of being onsisite and the express line. Our kids are 13 and 16 so we think they'll be fine to go to the parks on their own if they want; something we couldn't really do offsite. Are the public spaces good for reading etc if we need to get away from each other?

Are there computer kiosks? Or if we want access should we bring a laptop? Is there a surcharge for wi-fi?

I spent most of yesterday afternoon reading posts here- lots of great info! :yay: For example I joined Loewe'sFirst, based on what I read here. Thanks for all the help so far.

I have wondered all of the same things! The sticky is so old not sure what info is still current. We too would like to see the outdoor music at portafino - would love to eat outside and watch/listen while eating, but not sure if any of the restaurants have outdoor seating in the area they do the music.

I think we paid $12 a day at Christmas time.

We had plenty of room I thought with our 3 DS ages, 14,10, 7...we even had an air mattress in the room for one of them to sleep on. There is plenty of room to go off away from each other and where ever you go it is beautiful and relaxing!

If you have blue status with Loews first it is free, I think it is $10 a day otherwise... I think they only have computer kiosks in the club lounge but I may be mistaken.

I can answer some of your questions! We had a great 6 night stay from 3/19-3/25 at the RPR.

The coffee in the room was Emeril's regular, Emeril's decaf, black tea pods, and green tea pods with sugar and liquid cream (yay)!

We saw the torch lighting only because we were swimming. It had a few drummers, a conch blower, an island dancer and a fire juggler. Cute, but not that big of a deal. It's great to go swimming at night because of the dive in movies and the water is sooooo warm!

The rooms are not very roomy, but there are a lot of cozy lounge areas all around the resort. We loved the Orchid court lounge in the morning for a simple relaxing breakfast.

There is free internet access in the lobby and the pool area. We used the laptop in both areas with no problem.

We stayed onsite the whole time and loved it. The kids should be fine taking the boat over or walking the paths... they were lit well and we saw bicycle security riding up and down the paths.

I hope that helps! We meant to visit the other resorts, but we loved the pool at RPR so much, we never ended up doing it. The pool nachos were the best ever. HAVE FUN!

Our family is staying at the RPR in August and my confirmation came through saying that it will be $15 per night for self parking OUCH!! :(

We always stay at the Portofino and love the Musica Del Notte.

The singer is up on the balcony that opens up to the piazza. There are plenty of places to sit and listen. The Thirsty Fish bar is there and both Trattoria and Mama Della's have outdoor seating. You can also grab a pizza or sandwich at Sal's (Best pizza around), grab a seat on the Piazza and eat.

Yes apparently prices went up, and they also have a new barrier on the car park at RPR, so i am told.
The Torch lighting is ok , but i would not come specifically to see it, just if we happen to be at the pool, they also get the kids up to dance, with a prize at the end of it, usually a necklace.
Musica del Notte, lasts i think about 15 mins, quite nice to sit with a drink and listen to them on the Piazza.
Only ever got coffee and tea in the room, you might be able to buy different ones in the supermarkets.
Lots of places to sit and read at the resort, or just to relax and do nothing.

standard rooms at royal pacific are 335 sq ft.

there is room in the closet for the luggage or by the side of the closet if you have a lot of luggage.

internet is free for platinum status on the loews you first program.

check with the lobby on the hours the internet charge period begins.

when i was there, it started at an odd time in the day and goes thru a 24 hour period. the internet is not free at the lower non color levels or for new you first members.

you can also obtain this information on the tv in your room.
read the card that explains how to see your charges, and basic info on one of the channels.

there are some areas in the lobby where you might be able to hijack free wifi.
:ssst:

parking is $15 per night at the hotels.

ask the housekeeper to leave the type of coffee or tea flavors for your family.

i only drink coffee black and don't touch the flavored ones.
and, i drink at least 5 cups in the morning before i leave the room for breakfast.
i have an addiction...

the housekeeping staff gave me extras of the black coffee pods.
they were great about that.

since this is your first time at rph, tell the TM/team member, at check in that you would like to have turn down service for your room each night.

it's free............

they don't necessarily do that unless you request it....

i have stayed at all 3 hotels and will be back at rph this fall.
i enjoy it there tremendously.

i have over 20 different stays at hrh and eager to go back to rph for the peaceful atmosphere there.

Yep we are Blue members and as i stated we got free internet when we were there Christmas. I asked at the check in to make sure. Sorry Mac...but it is true! ;)

then that is great they included blue for that.
i'll correct my past post then.

i do know that a couple of posters were charged for internet cost recently.
they talked about it on a thread.

maybe i should have added that loews members without the color status pay for the internet.

I am a new you first member (not blue until after two stays, I think.) We tried to connect in the room and would have been charged, but had no problem logging in to the free wi fi in the lobby and the pool. You will see a lot of people in the evening on their lap tops in the lobby!

It could be too that they have changed it since Christmas, especially since you no longer start out with Blue Status....we got lucky I think....first stay and we had Blue!

Since they have changed to you first program I thought I wouldn't be at blue status anymore but guess I got lucky cause they still have me at blue :thumbsup2

that's because everyone was gifted last year to continue at their present status thoughout 09.

come january 1, 2010, status will change for anyone that did not meet the requirements in 09

I have a feeling come January alot of people will book with other discounts instead of rack rate with Lowe's upgrades unless you stay alot. I just don't see the value of the program anymore.

totally agree with you.

when my loews perks run out, i'll be using the best discount available at the time.

i only stay with a program as long as it benefits me.
