Now I know this is a real downer people but ...

We are are booked to go April '03 and I was wondering if anyone else is getting the "Oh you dont want to travel to WDW then not with the possibility of war" statement everytime you tell anyone ??

Does anyone else have any concerns about travelling during this unsettled time and if (and i'm fairly certain there will be) there is a war Iraq how do you think this will affect holidaying in the sunshine state ?

I'm sure it will put some people off, but I don't think this is a rational response to the situation. Why should a war with Iraq increase the level of risk compared to what it is now? My guess is that the kind of people who are prepared to inflict acts of terror on American/Western interests are not waiting for war (or not) with Iraq to decide whether to strike. Also, how do we know that two weeks in Orlando is any more risky than two weeks back home in the UK?

We're travelling to California in April, and I'm not so worried about the possible risk of terrorism to consider cancelling or postponing our holiday. I don't think that the onset of war will change my mind, although I will consider the situation as things develop in the Middle East. There is always an element of risk to everything you do in life - for example, there is more liklihood of dying in a car crash on the way to the airport than getting killed by a terrorist's bomb in mid-flight. We all have to consider whether than level of risk is so high that it means cancelling a long-anticipated holiday (and the possibility of loosing your money). For me the current situation is not so risky that I'm prepared to cancel our holiday.

Regards

Rob

I have to agree with Rob, living in the UK, particularly near London, carries as much risk, IMHO, as travelling to Florida for a holiday. At this time the airlines are going to be very aware of the threat of terrorism, so I'm sure their security is pretty tight right now.

Not sure I'd go ahead with a trip to Kuwait right now, but I think the US is OK.

We go on 7th April. I know what you mean though. We flew to Boston on Boxing Day and a lot of people kept telling us not to fly over Xmas as it was an increased risk.
Personally I'm more of a 'when you're times up' kind of person. I could cancel my flight and stay at home and get killed crossing the road.
Enjoy your holiday.

I'm agreeing with the other posters - just get on that plane and go!

The only valid argument to me is one of enjoying yourselves while our troops are in mortal danger. That is a value judgement on a personal level.

The argument about the dangers of making the trip is baseless to me and I agree with earlier comments about the level of risk.

Our American friends seem to be much more prone to staying home when terror rears its head in Europe but I genuinely feel that us Brits are made of stern stuff.

We have lived with terrorism for 30 years but just get on with life. To batten down the hatches or take to the hill only benefits those who wish us harm. By such actions they succeed. They have successfully terrorised.

Thanks for startin this thread. We're due to go March 1st and while there's never been a doubt in our minds as to should we travel in case of war? I've been wonderin if flights to and from US might be affected if we were in conflict. Sounds like this wouldn't be the case so am a happy bunny again.

Spotty Dog, the only way flights would be affected during a war with Iraq would be if so many people cancelled that the planes would be empty & therefore not a viable option to fly. Even if this was the case you would have no worries as you would definitely get a flight out there?
As for being worried I have another trip to Orlando booked for October & the other day booked a trip to New York for a few nights in early March :)
On the general theme of the thread. As others have posted, there is no greater risk during a war, the threat is bad enough as it is so, if you are willing to fly now, there is no reason not go during the forthcoming war.
