re-using Magic bands

For the first time, we will be going to the parks with "Armed Forces Salute" tickets. Will we be able to use our previously used Magic bands (which we have used with regular Disney tickets) or will we have to buy new magic bands?

You can use any 'Active' MagicBand that's already linked to your MDE profile.

How old are they, the ride photos/video part uses a battery that dies anywhere from 1-3 years and no way to test if it will work.

in short, yes, if you deactivated them in your mde profile remember to reactive them before they will work.

Not sure how old the bands are, but you should be able to reuse them for FP+, getting into the parks, and for scanning a band at photopass places with no problem. The only thing is if the battery dies, it may not pick up if you are wanting a ride video.

Then you'll have the opportunity to personalize and get new MBs for free as part of your resort reservation. You can decline those, you can order them, you can use old or new sets, you can use both for your stay. Order different colors so you can switch them out as your mood and outfit dictate.

MBs are free with resort stays. They connect to MyDisneyExperience. Your tickets will likely be put onto MDE. The MBs grab the info from MDE.

You can purchase salute tickets at your closest MWR as well. We use those tickets each year. They are considered vouchers that you activate with the eligible service member at any guest relations booth (park or DTD) prior to going through the gates as usual. You can also link the voucher in MDE to book your FP+ 60 days in advance.

We also have purchased on base ahead of time, but they can take up to 3 weeks to arrive so order early. I would go in to MDE and make sure to deactivate bands when you aren't using them to save the battery, and then you will have several to choose from. When I go I usually take whatever colors match my outfits and then change them each day. I activate them just before arrival and then turn them off when I'm leaving. It has always worked well. You'll be fine. The bands are estimated to fully work about 3 years. After that, not enough data and testing has been done to determine when exactly their long range capability dies. Your bands are under 2 years old so they'll work fully.

Once the long range rfid dies, the band will still work for park entrance, fast passes, and tapping to get photos. What won't work is the photos where you can't touch the Mickey head afterward because their automatically linked to your band, and the ToT and 7DMT ride videos.

Also..to get ride photos, you don't have to touch your band to the Mickey head after the ride. A LOT of people think this is how they are receiving their ride photos when it's not. You can walk right by and you'll see the photos pop up shortly after in your MDE

You can purchase your tickets on base at the ITT and there is a number on the back that you log into Mydisneyexperience. Then your magic bands are mailed to you. Just remember to still take your tickets with you because you do still have to "activate" them when you get to the parks.

You can order the tickets from SOG and not be staying at SOG. They will mail them to you, and it also takes like 2 weeks or so to get. Plenty of options to get them for your FP+ window. Have fun!

Yes, and when you feel like it, or it dies, you can get them recycled! Give them to the front desk and they usually take it from there. And you can always refuse a MB when you getting tickets. I've done that plenty. I try to keep my MB to a minimum to prevent waste in the environment.

They don't give MBs when getting tickets. You get them for free with your resort reservation (and you can now click a button to decline new ones as long as you have one in your account already), or when specifically buying MBs.

My bad. Although when I checked into AKL, they gave me a grey MB, and I already had my annual pass MB. After a lengthy discussion, in which I had to explain that they should just link my room key to the MB as well as any charges, they were able to do that. It just took a little effort, that's all.

Yes, thank you all for that. Now that I read the answers and replies, I feel really stupid having asked. I thought using military tickets might change the game.
