Here I sit at work, and all I can do is look over the list of recreation activities just faxed to me from HHI. Only 2 days to go! Can anyone answer some questions for me? Regarding the Dolphin Discovery, it appears it's free. Is it? If so, do you recommend that we reserve now or is it OK to wait til we get there? Also, regarding the Longview Cooking Club, what is this event like? Just DH and me so it sounds like something we might consider. And has anyone done it as a light dinner (we are on diets, so this might be better than going out)-not trying to save money, just calories! And what is the "Behind the Ears" tour? Last recreation question-we're staying at a Holiday Inn Express the night before we check in and there's an event that's offered at 9:00 on the morning we check in, only time it's offered all week. Assuming I could call and make reservations for it tomorrow ("it" is the Pinckney Island Wildlife Adventure) although we'll be checking in later the day of the tour, do you think they'd let us take the tour the day of check-in, before we check in? And one other question about bike rentals-does anyone bike over to the beach house and also around the Island. Thinking this might be a fun, calorie-burning way to get around next week. Thanks for reading all my questions!

The Dophin cruise is not free, but can likely be scheduled once you arrive.

I'm sure you can do the Pinckney Island Tour on arirval day. I would call to reserve a place. You'll want to arrive early and check-in at the resort anyway. Your room may not be ready, but you'll be all set when you return from the tour.

"Behind the Ears" is walking tour of the resort, pointing out interesting features, Hidden Mickeys, historical fact and fiction! There is no cost.

Longview Cooking Club offers some recipes from the area. It would likely be a little sparse for a meal, but would be a good appetizer. Wine often accompanies the program. It's a fun event.

It's just over a mile to the Beach House and is an easy walk/bike trip. Riding on the beach is great and there are miles of bike trails all over the island. You can rent bikes right at the resort or from several local companies.

Have a great trip. This is a nice time of year to be there!

Enjoy!

I can answer a few of your questions. You can check in and participate in activities even if your room is not ready. We did this last year and used the pool and my daughter did one of the crafts even though our room was not ready for quite a while. Also, the biking is great at HH, and you could bike to the beach house, but it might be tough carrying anything much. As for the cooking event, I would recommend it just because Chef Gordon is so great. We did A Private Affair with him last year, and have another one planned for next month. Have a great time, we can hardly wait to go back!

Thank you for posting this question. DH and I are chescking in on Sunday and this answered some of the questions we had about things to do. I just hope it is warm while we are there!!I am ready for a little spring after the winter in the northeast. Maybe I will see you there Simba's Mom. Patsy:sunny:

Sunday is the day we're checking in also. I just called there and found out that the Pinckney Island Tour is not offered this Sunday (I'd been faxed an activity list from 2 weeks ago, but I assumed it was the same). Today they're faxing us the recreation activity list for this coming week. I had it faxed to DH's work, though-knew that if they sent it to my work all I'd do is spend the rest of the day studying it (LOL). I'll look for you-Patsy from Delaware.

Pickney Island is accessable by car (you drive over it on the way to the island) and there is free parking in the area. You can get a self-guided tour map and walk the tour by yourself. Although you might have to read instead of listening to a guide, you can easily see the island, birds, critters, and vegetation without a guide and at your own pace.

For those of you that had activities lists faxed to you, can you tell me what days they are valid for (Sunday-Saturday, etc). Thanks!

Lisa

Simba's Mom:

How did you get a copy of the activities? Who did you call?

We'll be there in three weeks and I'd love to call a few days in advance and get my hands on a copy

If you have DVC/HH's phone number, could you share it with me?

THANKS

Unfortunately, I don't have it with me (I'm at work), but I remember I got it off the DVC website. I think it's also in the new Member Guidebook. It comes out on Friday every week-yesterday I called and they faxed me last week's.

The HH phone neumber is 843-341-4100 . Fax is 843-341-4130 .
