Does the Grand Californian hotel offer transportation to the Los Angeles
zoo? We're planning a trip there next year, and one of the people that will be with us will want to go to the zoo. :confused3

I don't know that Disney offers any off property trips, but we have done several bus day trips from DL to other places in Southern California. It was with a company called Southern California Grey Line. They will pick you up and drop you off right at your hotel. I did not see any trips to the LA zoo, but they had trips to the San Diego zoo, which is better anyway. We had many good experiences with them. Have a great trip!

I would second the suggestion to visit the San Diego Zoo instead of the LA Zoo. The LA Zoo is probably 45 minute more or less north and the SD Zoo is probably 2 and 1/4 hours south. If you would like to take public transportation instead of a bus tour, its probably easier to get to SD as the Amtrak train runs every hour or so from Anaheim to San Diego and back.

This is exactly my suggestion, SD zoo, take the Amtrak or commuter trains, that run often. The stations at each end are a short cab ride away.

I have been to both and definately would recommend the SD zoo. We have always driven down but a number of people I know take the Amtrak.

If we book the SD zoo through Disney.com, would the shuttle pick us up at the hotel?

Hey guys - show our LA Zoo a little love!

We do have a nice zoo that is getting better every year, thanks to the help of the newest Membership president, actress Betty White. She has taken great pains to help the zoo grow and develop. We currently have a new elephant exhibit opening soon, as well as several other wonderful exhibits.

It's much cheaper to attend than the San Diego Zoo and is in the same city park that hosts
  • the Autry Museum - right across the street from the zoo,
  • the Los Angeles Live Steamers - a group that hosts miniature train rides on the weekends - Walt Disney was a member of that club and his backyard barn is on the train grounds
  • The famous Griffith Park Carousel - the very one that Walt took his girls to, that inspired Disneyland
  • The Griffith Park Observatory - famed for it's exhibits and views of the city

If you get up to Griffith Park, you won't be disappointed.:thumbsup2

You know it is extremely easy to rent a car on Disney property for the day and drive to the LA zoo on your own. The rental location is in Downtown Disney in the same building as Compass Books (with their good coffee) - just around the corner of the building.

You simply get on Interstate 5 North and go up to the Griffith Park/Zoo exit! (Just past the 110 exit to downtown and the 2 Freeway exit to Glendale)That will put on Crystal Springs Drive - the only road that takes you aroung the mountain that is Griffith Park. Turn right on this road and the first intersection will actually be the Carousel. Keep going North past/through the golf course and you will be at the Zoo. There is a freeway on ramp to 5-South right across from the zoo entrance. (Walt's barn and the Live Steamers is a bit farther past the Zoo - on the same road, as is the Travel Town transportation museum -with full size trains)!

It really couldn't be any easier!:thumbsup2
