Re Gifters

I'm putting on my flame suit.

Yes, I do regift, If I get a gift that I know that I'm never going to use. I might as well pass it on to someone who will use it
Agreed! :flower3:

I have on occasion. The one I remember was a fragrance set that my sister gave me. I rarely use perfume, so didn't open it. Gave it to a SIL later, who I thought might like it.

I pass along gifts if it is something I can't use. However, I don't re-wrap them and present them as a present for an occasion like a birthday or Christmas.

I see it as a bonus, I do give it away but not under the guise of a new gift.

Me too. It is a shame to let the item go to waste if it is new and someone else would like it.

Do tell ...

somehow this has escaped me! :confused3

Over on the exchange board.

There is a link at the top of the page with all the upcoming exchanges and links to the threads once they get started.

I used to regift when I worked for a radio station where I got LOTS of gifts from the sales staff and clients. Most were music or jewelry I wasn't interested in so I gave them to family members.

Done properly, I don't there is anything wrong with it.

:scared1: holy cow. What did she say when she realized she was out $500?
I would imagine the check was outdated.
Checks that you write don't technically expire. The only way to ensure that an old check isn't cashed is to put a stop payment order on it and renew it every six months.
did you cash the $500 check?
She couldn't cash it. It wasn't made out to her.

I'm also in my flame suit. I regift all the time. I don't have a problem rewrapping it and giving it as a new gift, but I do consider whether it will fit the person I'm giving it to. I don't do it just willy-nilly. I consider the money I save on the gift to the new recipient as my real gift from the original giver!

ETA: I only do this with completely new, unopened/unworn gifts! I'd never regift something used!

I don't see anything wrong with regifting as long as the item has never been used and is something the recipient will most likely use.

I tend to re-gift children's toys since so mnay places won't take them back without a receipt and I don't want to ask the original giver for a receipt. One year my son got 3 Star Wars starfighters and he already had 2 so I saved the extras and gave them away when he had to go to other b-day parties, but i included the character that "matched" the ship.

As long as the toy is brand new and is still appropriate for the recipient (liek I would not a 6yr old a toy meant for a preschooler) then I think it is fine. :)

I regift, but I do it thoughtfully. There have been things I've received from certain people that are just not my taste, but I know others who would really like them. One year, some relatives I hardly know gave DH & I a stovetop popcorn maker (some old-fashioned kind with a crank handle or some nonsense). We don't eat much popcorn, and would just use a micro-bag when we do, so we regifted this to a family with kids who do movie nights once a week.
If it is something I really don't like (or already have) and I can do it without hurting feelings, I give it back and ask if they can return it or if they know someone else who might like it. If I can't return it, and don't end up passing it along, it goes to charity. Like the godawful sweaters my grandma used to get me every year.

I will regift occassionally...

Only when...
1) The item is new, never opened
2) The recipient would really like to have the gift.

Usually my regifting is duplicate gifts my DS8 gets for birthdays. Usually duplicate Legos or Nerf toys.

I will not regift something already opened, or give a gift just to be 'giving a gift'. DH and I rec'd a salad spinner as a wedding gift, in it's tattered original box, that had shriveled pieces of lettuce still in it :scared1::confused3. Now that is TACKY!

She couldn't cash it. It wasn't made out to her.
for deposit only, Bank of America does it all the time
Cashing a check made out to someone else is illegal if it hasn't been signed over to you.

Whether or not Bank of America notices that you are not the person that the check is made out to is moot.

I agree - and I might add that I think it's silly - from a financial aspect - to go out and spend money on a gift for someone else when you have a brand new item - never used - sitting right there in your own home that you will never use and you are sure the recipient will love.. :santa:

I am a regifter and not apologizing for it.
It is tasteful. Brand new stuff or gift cards. Heck if I get a gift card to say Olive Garden (hate their food). Why not give as a gift to someone I know would love to eat there.

I have re-gifted in the past. We got a couple toaster ovens as wedding presents and some friends getting married shortly after us had one of the ones we got on their registry so we gave that to them and gave the other as another wedding gift. I have re-gifted gift cards to places I don't go. Occasionally the kids would get a duplicate birthday gift and we would save one for a later party for someone else. I don't see anything wrong with doing it this way. Now, if I pulled something out of a kitchen cupboard that was used and re-gifted that, not ok. :lmao:
