Hi all!
It's been awhile since we were at Disney. Just wondering how the refillable mugs work. When were there last we just bought the mugs and refilled as needed. Do they do anything different? Or is it just the same as the last time we went? Thanks!

Same as last time (probably :)).
Buy the mug. Fill it. Rinse. Repeat.
What may be different, depending on the rules last time you were there, is the mugs are good at only the resort where purchased - see below for exceptions - during the trip on which they were bought.

Exceptions 1 (standard): Mugs bought at any All Star resort can be refilled at any All Star resort; mugs bought at either Port Orleans resort can be refilled at either Port Orleans resort; mugs bought at the Beach Club can be refilled at the Yacht Club and vice versa.

Exception 2: (current, subject to change): Disney recently started selling 'generic' Year of a Million Dreams' mugs at most of the resorts. The only apparent restriction, which is printed on the mug, is that they are for use during your current stay only. This allows Guests who stay at more than one property on a single trip to purchase only one set of mugs for the entire trip.

The only difference we noted was the mugs. All resorts now have the exact same mug, dated 2007. We bought ours our first night at Sports and were permitted (yes, we asked) to use it at POR the following week. The sign by the mugs and at the refill station say the mug is good during your stay at that resort. We were not going to purchase a mug for a one night stay at Sports but the CM said it was fine to use it at our next resort.

During our 9 days at POR, we saw lots of people using old POR and POFQ mugs. We also saw plenty of people using water park refillable mugs and other Disney plastic cups. One evening, I saw a young lady filling a Typhoon Lagoon and some sort of tall Mickey cup at the POR refill station. I overheard 2 young CMs discussing which of them was going to say something to the guest. Both CMs ended up pretending that they didn't see what was happening, walking away to wipe tables. Clearly, they had been told to say something to rule-breaking guests; but neither was comfortable doing this.

We just returned from POP and saw many people using the old tie-dye mugs that they sold there. I never saw anyone say anything....

We also bought the generic mugs at ASmovies in April for our first 2 nights and then used them at the Contemporary for the last 5 nights.

This isn't a debate. They have the new Year of a Million Dreams mugs now. You will need to buy them and then you can use them at the resorts for this trip.

We purchased mugs on our trip to the Polynesian (7/15-7/21). They cost $11.99 each, and can be refilled with soda, juice, water, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, etc., for the length of your stay. :)
