Can anyone tell me about your RCI experience in getting a ressie? I'm trying for June or July, a 6 week period, with 2 different properties. In the Florida panhandle......what are the odds? How early did you know you got something?

We've done a few trades since joining DVC in 2000.

You may have a hard time since its only 5 months to when you want to be there and you've only listed 2 resorts, though the 6 week window will help. It could also happen based on the choices you've made and if any of those folks want to be at WDW during that same time. Our trades have worked when I've called about a year in advance. I hear going to Hawaii is tough in less than a 2 year window. I called last August 2009 for 9 different Florida spots in March 2010 when our college age kids are on break and had no luck. I just booked 2 weeks ago for OKW because I had to start locking in airfares. Concierge Collection trades in Washington DC was no problem though. I think I booked that only 5 months ahead.

Here's hoping it works out for you though...

It's kind of late to be looking for June or July in RCI, especially for the Pahnandle. While I've not exchanged my DVC points, I have another TS that trades in RCI, and I've made trades way way ahead of time for popular times(ie when kids are out of school).

November 2009 traded for a July 2010 week in Hawaii.

Friday I just traded for a Xmas week 2010 at a ski resort!

I would pick out the resorts you are would accept and have MS put an ongoing search in for you.

Realize that given the dynamics of the area and time of year, that is not being flexible. I'd say your chances of getting anything are about as close to zero as you can get unless you're looking for a studio but then it's still very low. IMO, anything less than 1 year out for most trades is short notice. If you want the panhandle, try using BVTC for Club Intrawest directly though you may not be able to book exactly 7 nights that way. I'd add all the resorts in the area except Ocean Towers. You may also want to look at a private exchange with an owner in the area.

Thanks for the responses...we have been on the waiting list since last August.....my son really wants Panama City...so that is what we requested.

Ok, sorry, another question....so when you request 2 years out...do they tell you yes then??? I thought the current owners had to first give up their week??

You put in a "search." It is not a waitlist and few people cancel RCI trades. It's not like DVC, where you can cancel, rebook, etc. most people who get a trade thru RCi never cancel their week, thus, at this point, it is unlikley that you would get a week. Most who trade wtih RCI put in their search 1 year out, so you would be behind others. If you want a beach week, if you consider Texas coast or Hilton Head, SC, you will have a better chance--make sure DVC-RCi rep only "modifies" your search and doesn't cancel and start a new search--that way, you keep your place in line from August. good luck and sorry for the bad news. Elaine

I don't know the reason you are limited to 2 resorts only, but adding more would help. I personally enjoyed the newer Wyndham Emerald beach resort. You might consider Destin as well, close and several nice resorts there. I think the 2 resort limit has been your biggest problem.

I do have a bunch of deposits with RCI to search with, can you tell me what in particular you are after? I can see if anything at all shows up.

NO, you want to have an ongoing search in at the time units start to come in. The problem from August is you have have lost out on option both because units may have come and gone prior to your search and because others were able to get on the list before you. I don't hold out much hope but you might get lucky inside the 30 day window. Did you try the BVTC option at all, that's almost certainly your best chance of getting anything.

I would look at the 2 locations as basically the same. I doubt it would have affected your results had you listed all 4 good resorts though.

I don't have any RCI weeks deposits but at the present time there are no points resorts for a full week (didn't look for shorter) and only 2 weeks resorts that I can see, both lower resorts and smaller units. I'd only miss points resorts in the weeks side and that's not likely an issue in this situation. It's unlikely any of these options will show up on the website due to ongoing searches unless you get under 45 days. Hopefully the OP is searching for a full week as only 1 of the 2 resorts in question does points. One thing to realize about the Holiday inn system is you can't trade again to their system (any resorts) for a period of time, I think it's 3 years.

I've always taken what was available. Every time I've tried for specific times/dates, there has never been anything. Be flexible is all I can say.:goodvibes

If you have only taken what they had and not used the waitlist/search function, you've significantly limited the value you could receive from such options.

I've been dealing with RCI since 2003 and believe me, I've used the wait list/search options. I had a search once for over a year and nothing ever opened up. It made me a little suspicious....hmmmmmmmmm.

I've used RCI's ongoing searches, but I always find something way more interesting than my ongoing search. :surfweb:

November 2008, had an ongoing search for HHI(2010), saw a sighting on TUG of a huge Wyndham Kona Hawaiian banking, took a 2010 summer week.

Just set up another ongoing for HHI(2011) with my 2010 week, poking around in my usual places, came up with a week 51 at my resort, which is a ski resort.

Perhaps it's not meant for me to go to HHI.:rotfl2: I've never kept an ongoing going long enough to see if it works.

I know it does in II, only had 2 weeks listed to match up with the WKH week and it came through in 8 months from starting it.

I've run a couple different ongoing searches---mostly as experiments---and have been pleasantly surprised at what has turned up. This includes Atlantic coastal summer. For high-demand locations, my sense is that an ongoing search is more useful than periodic checking, particularly now that RCI no longer has a predictable "witching hour" when each days' new units get added.

One of these times I deposit, I'll just let the ongoing search "go".

I don't think I've ever had a reasonable request with RCI or II that wasn't filled unless I found something on my own first. I think most ongoing requests that don't fill are either unrealistic or not let to run long enough. Unrealistic could be reaching too high, starting too late or trying for things that are very unlikely for anyone to get say Xmas Maui for example. Regardless, the best chances of getting anything outside the 45 days window with RCI or the 60 day window with II is to have an ongoing search that is started at least a year prior to the time requested. That's even more true with DVC given that you don't have direct access to RCI.

I waitlisted for 2 Florida panhandle resorts (Wyndham and Escapes Tropical Breeze) about 5 months ago. I said I would take any size unit anytime from late May to early August. About a month ago the waitlist came through for a 1 bedroom in mid-July for Escapes Tropical Breezes. I was really getting worried nothing would come through so I was very excited to get that email!:)

I was just thinking about trading pts with RCI. They seem to have lots of
restrictions too.
