Has anybody successfully traded into an RCI resort using DVC points yet? I am looking to trade in July 2010, but the property has a check in of saturday only. of course, i need to check in on Sunday. Is RCI strict? are they accomodating to late checkins?

I have a yes and no type answer. We are looking to go north for Thanksgiving, but not for the full week. They did have accomodations for the full week, but I was calling too early for the daily rate. The CM was very helpful. She did tell me that if I could not get the daily rate, and if the weekly was still available, that we had the use of the unit for the entire week, and if we came late, it was our call and there would be nothing to stop us.

It may depend upon where it is you are trying to book into.

Good luck. I will be calling this week for the Thanksgiving weekend, so I have my fingers crossed that there is availability.

Thanks. see, that makes sense. the property did respond to my inquiry, but answered it was up to the owners who will be trading. that doesn't make sense. what would they care if we came a day late or not. what if my flight was late and we couldn't get in until the next day. or what if my flight was cancelled for 24 hours.

You can almost always come a day late, but you'll still have to check out on the Saturday following. What you probably can't do is get a full seven-night stay starting on a Sunday.

that is exactly what i want. I will try calling RCI directly and ask. Member services suggested i find out before i commit to the point transfer.

RCI will probably tell you to call the resort. That's what I would suggest too---call the resort, tell them you have an opportunity at a Saturday arrival, but would like to arrive one day late.

In most cases, as long as the resort knows you are coming, it's not an issue.

RCI and the resorts are very strict. However, sometimes the resorts situation has changed and the RCI info has not been updated, that just happened this week to another DVC member trading to LV. Which resort are you looking at? As a rule, you cannot change it just like you can't change a DVC reservation if you trade in. You can arrive late but the week still ends at the same time. Always let the resort know directly if this is the case so they won't give your room away. Sometimes you can upgrade the units for a fee either for view or size but it varies by the resort and in the cost. If you trade for a Sat start week, that is what you'll get and you will have no alternatives at that point. You could consider other means to trade such as direct exchanges because often the resorts allow members to book different times than they give to RCI/II. Or you could consider a different resort in the same area.
