Question: If I can trade into RCI for a one bedroom in HH 160 points during high season... but HH which is lovely (but I don't own there and have trouble with the 7 month window) and is 259 for a week...why would I even try for the Disney resort?? I have never been to HH... but the RCI resorts seem to have very good reviews... looking for feedback the good and the bad...

Getting HH during peak is difficult at a DVC resort, it's going to be just as difficult if not impossible as trade via RCI.

To a degree, I think you're correct though it was a more clear choice when DVC was with II and you had the Marriott's to chose from. DVC is by far the best RCI resort on the island and given that the location of most of the nicer ones are not enough better to justify the options (unlike 4 of the Marriott's), I think I'd stick with DVC. Of course there are a few Marriott's in II (Monarch, Heritage, Harbour Club and Sunset Pointe) but all are 2 BR only at 270 points. Personally I'd chose the resort that interest you, and decide if 270 points for a 2 BR with the stipulation you'll take a 1 BR if available. If not, just list the acceptable resorts that only have 1 BR units though that will reduce your choices. It will give you additional options and then if nothing happens by 7 months out, you can always try for DVC. If you get DVC you then have the choice to cancel the RCI search or later cancel DVC if you match RCI. Personally I'd try to get a direct exchange into one of the top Marriott's.
