RCI/SSR Question

Hi all,
This is my first time posting on this board, as my parents were able to get us a studio at SSR for September 2010 My question is, the reservation is still in their name when I check the Disney reservation web site, even though we paid to have the reservation transferred to our name through RCI. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is something that we should call RCI for or DVC member services. My mom has called RCI numerous times about this and they keep telling her that they've faxed over the info, but nothing changes on the Disney side. Any help would be appreciated and thanks again

Hi Theresa, welcome to the DisBoards!

I just did an RCI exchange myself (today actually), and from what I understand, you aren't really put into Disney's/DVC's reservation system until about 3 months out (meaning 3 months before your check-in date)

At that time, you can arrange for Magical Express and/or add on the Disney Dining Plan to your reservation, but prior to that, you're not really "in" the system. So perhaps that is why the reservation isn't showing up in your name yet.

This is just a guess as to why the reservation isn't in your name yet though. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can give you some more insight.

This should be in your name but it will likely take a few days for that to happen. It may or may not make it to the online option though. Give it a few days if you can and try again, if that doesn't work out, call MS which you can do related to the exchange. I'm sure you know about the extra $95 fee.

Thank you both for your help I am aware of the $95 fee, which is fine, as I do want to get the dining plan and use the transportation.
Disney-super-mom, I was actually able to add my Magical Express reservations already, even though the confirmation number is in my parent's name. I just put our names on the reservation.
Thanks Dean, I wasn't sure if I could call MS or my parents needed to, but I'll give it a try next week.

Could you tell me what you traded from RCI to get DVC? I'm trying to see what kind of places people are trading that get into DVC

Tread lightly as what can and can't get DVC has changed twice in the last 18 months---first when they switched from II to RCI, and then again last May when RCI went through a global trade power revaluation. There is a credible rumor that RCI is changing how Weeks works *again* sometime this summer or fall, though you never know for sure until it happens.

If you want to buy a timeshare to use it, and maybe even to trade in general, great. But, a lot of people have been bitterly disappointed buying something for a specific trade, only to see the rules change out from under them.

Oh, my family actually already owns a timeshare through RCI. I've just been trying to get a feel with what people have had success with.

I traded a studio in Hawaii for a 2BR at BWV.

To the OP - did your mom get you a guest certificate? I just got my mom a condo for next weekend and got her the guest certificate. Everything was then in her name. It is an extra fee for it. As far as being in the Disney computers, I exchanged 11 months out and my ressie was in their computer right away.

CCgirl - Yes, my mom did get us a guest certificate, I have it at home, with our names on it. I've just been checking through the online reservation system, but maybe I'll give a call to MS to see what they say We got the confirmation at the end of February, beginning of March and the guest certificate soon after, so I'm hopeful.

badinnplaid - My parents had an extra week with RCI and I had to put in an ongoing search, which cost us $185 I think and it took awhile to come through, as we put it in January 1st and didn't get a correct hit until almost the end of February or so. I took the chance on getting any DVC for September, so I'm pretty happy so far Good Luck

DVC will often add the additional guests to the reservation thus allowing you to avoid the guest certificate. That won't help with the DDP though as all on the reservation have to get the DDP. I don't think I've ever paid for a guest certificate for a family member with RCI or II.

Should an RCI Guest Certificate have a confirmation number on it, because mine doesn't have a confirmation number. How can you view a reservation on the Disney website without a confirmation number?

On my RCI Vacation confirmation and Guest Certificate:

There is a "Member ID" number
And a "Resort ID" number
And the "Unit" type reserved
And check in and out dates

But there is no confirmation number.....there is only a confirmation date.

The rep will look up your reservation by location + arrival date + name on reservation + address of name on reservation. Once found -- you may request the DVC confirmation number, add room requests, set up Magical Express, etc.

I did this earlier this week for our inbound exchange for Oct. No problem finding our reservation.

This was a trade from a non DVC resort to a DVC resort thru RCI so a guest certificate is needed with RCI as far as I was aware.

ITA. I called member services and referred to that confirmation # whenever I spoke with Disney. Making dining reservations, arranging Magical Express etc. I never was able to see the ressie online though.
