I have a timeshare in Hawaii that trades in both II and RCI and so I recently joined RCI to trade for DVC. I have a late deposit worth 21 points and another worth 34. I have an ongoing search for a 1bedroom at VWL for early December using the 21 point deposit. How do I know if that is enough as I don't want to miss out on a trade. I just saw a 1bedroom VWL for early August that was 52 points but I figured that was a peak time as opposed to early December. I am a weeks owner. Thanks.

I can't answer your RCI trade questions, but early December is the most popular DVC travel time. It's harder for DVC members to get our first choice rooms than August and usually requires booking our home resort at the 11 month window.

Thanks Noelle. I agree but RCI seems to follow the more traditional definitions of peak with early December being less popular. Just wondering if anyone has a feel for the number of points or if there is a place to look it up.

Thanks again.

You don't know for sure what the TPU required will be but it's unlikely that 21 pts will be enough TPU for that time even for OKW or SSR 1 BR. IF one were able to deposit those times the TPU currently is 22 but sometimes the deposit TPU and required to trade are not the same. You should change it to the 34 or even better, combine the 2 and use the combined deposit. Just pay attention to cancelation schedules as the combined deposit is only good 2 years from when you combine them.

I know that's the common thinking around here but it's not been uncommon to see weeks in RCI for that time, I've personally traded in for the first or second week in Dec at least 3 times combined. One will eventually see VGF as well in RCI deposits in all likelihood.

Thanks so much Dean. I will change to the 34 and if that doesn't work I will shoot to combine for my May 2015 trip in a 1 bed at VWL.

Unless you have plans to put in another request using the other deposit, you may want to combine now. Once you change the deposit being used for the search, you'll have to start all over on the priority list. For may 2015 for a 1 BR, I doubt you'll have any trouble as long as you hit the minimum TPU needed. 34 will likely be enough for the 1 BR but there have been times when it would not have been.
