I'm looking for recommendations for using some DVC transferred RCI points. My preference would be to use them at a resort in Mexico with the following preferences -

- in a safe Mexican area with no/little crime or safety concerns
- no "all inclusive" fees
- located in a city or near other activities
- near a beach

Thanks!

The Royal/Grand Mayans in Cancun might fit what you are looking for. It might be worth joining TUG, the Timeshare User Group (~$15) for access to their timeshare review database. Or, just posting the question on their discussion board (tugbbs.com), which you can do without joining as a TUG Member.

I think the Grande Mayan's are all Signature and not available for the regular points charts. I think the Royal's (recently dually affiliated) have gone AI for new exchangers from what I've heard. The Gran Melia in Cancun may be the best option that fits this bill in RCI and not AI. The Mayan Palace is not in town. IF the Royals are not AI in RCI (they're not listed as such yet but it's reported all new exchanges are AI) then they would all be at the top of my list. Second choice would be Cabo for Pueblo Bonito, I know at least one of their's are in town. Raintree and Hacienda del Mar are not in town and the Grande Mayan is also Signature. If you don't mind being a few miles out of town, those I listed but not in town also become good choices. Several of the PV properties hold promise but I don't know them well enough to say much.

Personally I'd talk to the independent exchange companies and see if you can rent something for a few hundred or trade much more favorably than using RCI. SFX is likely the best choice for this situation.

Check out Fiesta Americana in Los Cabos.

TOTALLY SAFE

Fiesta Americana Vacation Club is located about 10 km from Los Cabos ($10 ride round trip) and 18 km from San Jose Los Cabos.

The resort is located in a guarded/gated community called Cabo del Sol along with golf course homes and the Sheraton resort.

I've been there 6 times and it is great, safe, private beach and totally 5 star resort.:woohoo:
