RCI exchange 160 pts?

Hi, am I understanding correctly that if I do a weekly exchange for a 1-BR for 1 week in Hawaii, it is 160 points? I have never done it and am really not sure of the process, but my Disney book says weekly exchanges through RCI is a high of 160 points. So I went on the DVC website and was connected to the RCI resorts and there are quite a few beutiful places on Maui, seems too good to be true to get it for 160 points for 7 nights...is that right? Thanks!

Just because you see them listed, doesn't mean that you will ever get them. Some members have waited for 2 years and never got their trade.

Exactly! I have been an RCI member (directly, not just through DVC) for seven years, and many of the resorts they list are simply never available.

I feel that 160 points for an RCI trade is way too high. You are better off renting your points out and then using that money to rent something in Hawaii.

First, that is around $1600-1800 worth of points. As noted, availability is a MAJOR issue for HI, exp for Maui where there is really only 1 resort on the list worth trading to, Kaanapali Beach Club and it is dually affiliated with II and RCI as well as a fair amount of inventory tends to go to both Trading Places and San Francisco Exchange. Another issue is that the resort must have 1 BR units to put in for a trade for that locations. Some times and islands will actually be less than 160 points depending on the time of the year. You also need to plan at least a year out, preferably 2.

I booked a room at the Kaanapali Beach Club as a wedding present for my daughter's honeymoon last year. It was a very easy, pleasant transaction. She did travel at the end of September, so maybe there isn't much of a demand at that time. She and her new husband were thrilled with it and she couldn't thank me enough. All they had to pay for was a resort tax when they checked in. All I had to do was call Member Services and pay a $95 fee. Super Simple!

I did an exchange several years ago without to much hassle, the key is flexibility. For 160 points, I got the Marriot Ko Olina on Ohau in September. Yep the same place where Disney now has their own DVC resort.

So it can be done.

This and early Dec are the slowest times for HI, as they are for most places.
