My wife and I are thinking of trading our Disney points for one of the Vegas locations for Feb 2011.

I am confused on how this works... I call up DVC to say I want to do this... but they might not be able to tell me I am booked right then and there? So I might be placed on a waiting listing until it becomes available. They will auto book it for me. Do they make sure I get the week that I want?

Any help on how RCI and DVC work would be helpful... I do not think the DVC site explains it all to clearly.

Look at the list of resorts and decide where you want to stay and your dates. Once you have that call DVC and tell them what/when you want. If it's available you just book it, if not, you can go on a waitlist for many options but not for all. Keep in mind that ponits resorts aren't normally available until 10 months out and that anything under 12 months is short notice for non points resorts. For LV the Hilton's are going to be the best RCI options but there are a few others.

Keep in mind there are other ways to get into resorts than RCI including private exchanges, family/friends who have II or RCI accounts and independent exchange companies which often have rentals as well. LV is traditionally a very easy exchange and likely not worth using DVC points for in most situations.

A private trade with a westgate member or Marriott member might be some of the top choices.

It looks like the Hiltons have already deposited February 11, with availability for everything but President's Week.

Dean's advice is sound---there may be other ways for you to get there that are a more efficient use of your resources. But, the exchange will be easy to do.

I just became a DVC member this weekend and was thinking about going to LV in 2011 as well. If I have to use DVC points, I would prefer to go during the "low season." When would that be? Also, could you explain what an exchange would entail?

Thanks!

FWIW, I checked into using some of our points in Vegas, and determined we'd be better off financially taking advantage of one of the deals offered by a strip hotel. As for a "low" season, based on what I saw on RCI, there isn't one in Vegas - it's always "red" which is the most expensive. If anyone knows different, feel free to correct me. :)

Check with DVC but I suspect LV will be MID or HIGH season and not LOW season at any time since it's red year around.
