Hi all,

I have a question for a friend of mine -- she owes RCI and she wants to head to WDW in Sept. She's spoken to her guide and has been told there's availability for her dates at BCV or AKV --- I was chatting to her about AKV and we may join her the same time if things pan out correctly using our points for our own room... now here's my questions.

With RCI do you you book Kidani vs Jambo and get options of views or do you just book for AKV and you find out when you check in what you get? Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Dining plan -- are they considered when using RCI points to be like DVC members and can add the Dining Plan without tickets, etc?

If we do go we want to at least be in the same side of the resort (jambo vs kidani). Which of course makes me think of another question -- obviously we are making separate bookings etc but do you think Disney would accept a request to try ((yes I know it is ONLY a request)) and put our rooms somewhat close to each other simply based on last names?

Thanks! :)

Technically you book AKV and find out later. In some cases you MAY be able to figure out the information due to other behind the scenes info. You'd have to call and see what the unit listing type was. I don't think I've seen anyone say they got an exchange to Jambo so I think Kidani is far more likely. We had 2 units this past fall through RCI for Kidani, one Savannah view and one standard view. We were able to get RCI to agree to allow us a later cancelation once we were able to figure out if they were both in the same building or not. Remember you have 24 hours to cancel with no penalty but in this case DVC will likely not have the info in time to tell you to allow cancelation under this rule. Note, DVC members using RCI to exchange do not have the same 24 hour cancelation option from what I can tell.

Bump about the dining plan :)

Are my friends eligible with their RCI trade to get the dining plan if they want?

Yes, they should receive the number to Member Services with their RCI confirmation, they can call and add any of the Dining Plans that are available to DVCers.

OK...can I ask another question in regards to RCI and DCV....how is it figured...the exchange I mean....is it point to point??? The reason I ask is that my parents have RCI and we are planning a FAMILY vacation next year to Disney (17 of us) and are planning on using the RCI points for lodging. I know there is a place just inside the gates that is RCI location that my parents just stayed out but would love to talk them into staying on site!!!

How can I start to investigate to see how many points we would need for the 17 of us to go????

You may research the RCI online directory without having an RCI account. Start by visiting the rci.com website, click "Resort Directory", find the resort of interest, click to the "Resort Details" tab for that resort -- and then use the link titled "See RCI Points Value" in the lower left corner.

Link for the RCI Points grid for AKV is located:

Yes, for every member for 7 nights. No options of shorter time even if you don't stay all 7 nights.

It's not at all likely to get this much space through DVC. You'd need a minimum of two 2 BR units plus one other unit. It's possible, I've done it, but just not very likely, esp when you need the entire time to make it work. I'd talk to RCI to see what options you have that can be booked all at one time. Some locations have 3 BR units and a couple have 4 BR units though it's not common to see 4 BR available for exchange. Whether you want to take the chance depends on what system you're using (RCI points vs RCI weeks), what you're trading if RCI weeks and when you're going.

Thanks! They booked their week yesterday at Kidani and are very excited!

I called DVC and there are rooms avail on both sides in all view types so if we decide to go we are good. Hubby and I just need to decide if we will go and stay the whole time at AKV or do a split between AKV and BLT if anything is avail there.

As Dean mentions, this will be tricky---and probably only likely in OKW or SSR, where more inventory gets deposited. It will also take nerves of steel, because you'll probably not be able to book all the units you need at one time, so you'll have to book a few and then hope more turn up.

If I was traveling with a group that size and I was coordinating the lodging, I'd seriously consider a private pool home, or perhaps two located near one another. In just a few minutes of searching, I came across this listing (no affiliation):

8 bedrooms, 5 baths in Rolling Hills, tucked just south of 192, easy access onto Disney property via Sherberth road (which hits Osceola between AKL/AKV and AK). It would cost you about as much as renting points for a single 2BR DVC villa most times of the year.
