I was wondering if anyone knows what the ratio of 1 bdrm to 2 bdrms at the DVC's? We own at SSR and are looking to buy additional points so that we have enough for a week in a 2 bdrm. We are wondering how hard it is to book a 2 bdrm at the 7 month window? We try to travel the last 2 weeks of August, or the week before Christmas.

We are trying to decide if we should buy more at SSR or if we should try for a resale at another resort.

Thoughts?

Here is the breakdown of villas at each resort:

OKW - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 274 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 230 Lockoffs - 27 Grand Villas = 531 Units / 761 Max. Available Rooms

VB - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 18 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 36 Lockoffs - 6 Grand Villas - 112 Inn Rooms = 172 Units / 208 Max. Available Rooms

HHI - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 76 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 21 Lockoffs - 5 Grand Villas = 102 Units / 123 Max. Available Rooms

BWV - 97 Dedicated Studios - 130 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 0 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 149 Lockoffs - 7 Grand Villas = 383 Units / 532 Max. Available Rooms

VWL - 20 Dedicated Studios - 27 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 44 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 45 Lockoffs - 0 Grand Villas = 136 Units / 181 Max. Available Rooms

BCV - 36 Dedicated Studios - 20 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 78 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 74 Lockoffs - 0 Grand Villas = 208 Units / 282 Max. Available Rooms

SSR - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 360 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 432 Lockoffs - 36 Grand Villas = 828 Units / 1260 Max. Available Rooms

AKV - 46 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1BR villas - 140 Dedicated 2BR villas - 250 Lockoffs - 22 GVs. 134 villas within Jambo House at AKL (46 Ded.St, 82 Lockoffs, 6 GVs) and 324 villas in Kidani Village (opening May, 2009) (140 Dedicated 2BRs, 168 Lockoffs, 16 GVs) for a total of 458 Units / 708 Max. Available Rooms.

BLT - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1BR villas - 148 Dedicated 2BR villas - 133 Lockoffs - 14 Grand Villas = 295 Units / 428 Max. Available Rooms

2BR villas are the easiest to reserve and late August is a fairly slow time at WDW and reservations are usually plentiful. The week before Chrsitmas is busier.

If there is another resort you'd want to reserve at 11 months, then purchase an add-on there.

Enjoy! :)

SSR - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 360 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 432 Lockoffs - 36 Grand Villas = 828 Units / 1260 Max. Available Rooms (based on the remaining Grandstand Building due to open over the next few months)

Doc: Just so I understand what you wrote... There are 432 1-Bedrooms and 432 Studios at SSR, but all capable of being combined into 2Bdrm units?

Doc,
since you know what the breakdown is at each of the resorts, I have a question about what it means to my situation.
My wife and I are finally ready to buy (it's been over a year in the making). But, eventhough the resorts look big and seem to have significant units, my concern is this:
How difficult do you believe it would be to reserve a 1BR at SSR for the 3rd week in June each year (have to wait until after school)?
What about a 2BR?
I don't want to purchase points and then lose the ability to take vacation when we normally would.

As long as you are not extremely picky about which resort, I don't think you will ever have trouble making a 1 or 2 bedroom reservation at the 7 month mark for summer. Generally, 1 bedrooms are the last to book.

Lock offs are the combination of a 1 bedroom and a studio.

Yes, that's correct. Those are all lock-off 2BR villas which may be used as 1BR villas or Studios or as a 2BR villa. SSR has no dedicated Studio or 1BR villas.

If you are able to reserve at 11 months, I don't expect you'll ever have a problem reserving at SSR (or any other Home Resort) for a 1BR villa in June. Same answer for a 2BR. The 11 month priority works very well.

If you must wait until within 7 months to make the reservation, there may be times when you would need to use the waitlist to get all nights of your stay - but even there, I would expect to be able to find availability someplace at WDW using your points.

what do mean buy a dedicated one bedroom? I thought vero beach had one bedrooms, above says none

A dedicated 1 bdrm is a room that can ONLY be a 1 bdrm. It does not have a lockoff w/a 1 bdrm to make a 2 bdrm. So yes, Vero has 1 bdrms but they can all be unlocked w/a 1 bdrm to make a 2.
