I`ve been to USF/IoA several times already but haven`t done any coasters. I`d like to start with less intense rides, working up to more intense.

So, which is more intense:

Dragon challenge or Hulk?
Hulk or HRRR?
The Mummy or Jurassic Park or Dudley Do-Right?

etc.

Also, I heard tightening you stomach muscles like doing a crunch help fight the butterflies when you`re dropping. I tried it on Expedition Everest and it seemed to make a big difference to me. Maybe that`ll help me here too.

TIA.

In order from most intense to least intense for me:
1. Dragon Challenge
2. Hulk
3. HRRR
4. The Mummy
5. Dudley Do-Right
6. Jurassic Park

They are all actually not that bad, Jurassic Park only has 1 drop, Dudley Do Right has a couple of small drops plus the bigger one. The mummy is just all out fun, I don't consider it much of a roller coaster but it's a blast. HRRR is fun because of the music but not that bad. Hulk and Dragon Challenge are your actual roller coaster that are a blast.

Dragon
Ripsaw
and......hmmmm.....Hulk (I think.... MIGHT be HRRR......depends on preferances I suppose...)

Last time I went to UO/IOA was back in 2000.

From most intense to least:

Hulk and DC (sorry, can't decide, but I loved the take off at the start of Hulk)
The Mummy (if it's identical to the US in Hollywood. The ride is better for me if I sit in the front row).
Dudley
Jurassic Park

Haven't been on HRRR

Personally I agree 100% with Hombre59, but my wife found HRRR more intense than Hulk. Definitely DC is the most intense.

In order, from More Intense to Less Intense:

Hulk (for the launch)
Dragons
Rockit (that vertical lift gets me every time)
Mummy (fun!)
JP/Ripsaw = tied

Also, what helps me is to just SCREAM :scared1::scared1::scared1:
Even if it's a "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" type, it makes drops more fun & less intense.

I think DC is only intense if they have both coasters going at the same time, this last time when I rode it was a little disappointing becuase the other coaster either went late or did not go at all so you did not get that feel of being too close for comfort :)

Like DM.....I found that screaming as you are about to drop really helps and you don`t get that awful stomach lurching feeling.

I used to hold my breath as I dropped, and that`s why I wouldn`t go on anything that had a drop for years, it was the worst thing to do and I hated that feeling.

I`m a real screamer now.....just make sure it`s not directly in anyone`s ear :rolleyes1

Could be worse, I used to get so scared of drops that my sister took me on the Tower of Terror and when the drop happened I bit her

I'm much better now but after 12 years she still won't sit next to me on a ride for some reason :lmao:

:lmao: Now that did make me laugh!!!!!

I can`t say I blame her for that. Glad you`re better now though. Hope it wasn`t on the photo :rotfl:

I found HRRR way too intense for me. I had no problems with anything else. I'd rate DC and Hulk more intense than the others on your list except HRRR. My husband who can't handle most coasters has no problems with Mummy or the water rides.

DC...Hulk bangs you around more...DC smoother too
Hulk over HRRR
in order of intense: Mummy, Dudley, JP

my opinion of course

Really? Can I ask you exactly what about HRRR you found so intense? I was @ US & IOA last year and did Hulk (loved it!), but didn't get a chance to do HRRR. Hoping to do it next month when I'm there. I'm just wondering what to expect. Anyone??

:woohoo:

HRRR really depends on what train you're on -- some are very smooth and not intense at all, others are shakier and knock you around considerably more. We rode twice and I LOVED my first, smooth ride and was in a bit of pain after my second, shaky ride. It really can go from one end of the spectrum to the other.

IMO, HR3 is the most intense ride they have. I know most people will disagree, but I found it much more "gut clenching" than either DC or Hulk.

I'd rate them this way:

HR3
DC
Hulk
Forbidden Journey (just because the simulator portion gives me vertigo)
Spiderman (see above)
Dudley Do-right
Jurassic Park
Revenge of the Mummy

I am not a big fan of coasters, except the small ones. I go on so my son doesn't have to ride alone. When I sit down, I find a focal point and start breathing slowly to stay relaxed through the ride (that Lamaze class was good for something!) This didn't work for me on HRRR. Going up I was staring straight into the sun - not pleasant. Then the downhill freaked me out ( I hate big straight drops). From then on, I felt like I was bounced all over the place and never really regained my composure. (I admit the video was quite funny.)

My son really liked it though.

@Procrastinate: you gave a good description of how I feel about the drops. I'm lucky in that I never get motion sick, even in terrible conditions. I think I'll try to fix my eyes like you say, not for motion sickness but just to get over the drop. Once I'm up to speed, I don't might bouncing and jarring nearly as much as the drop.

What I would like to know is how rough the US thrill rides are??

I consider the Disney ones (Mt. Everest, Space Mountain CA, Rock n roller coaster) to be very smooth. Very nice thrill rides. I do not worry about banging my head, jarring my back.

I consider the Matternorn in DL to be a rough ride. Jarring on my spine. I think Space Mountain FL is not a very smooth ride, but tolerable.

I consider some of the coasters I've been on at Six Flags/Elitch's Denver to be really rough. I'm too worried about getting a spine injury or a concussion to be scared or "thrilled". LOL. Some have such abrupt stops that you slam your head back in your seat, etc.

Can someone tell me how the US thrill rides compare? If they are super rough, rattling rides, I don't want to ride.
