Rate the Ride: Star Tours

I love it. Hadn't been on it ever until last September, when I realized it was one of my favorite.

Love the queue, love the neon, the little things you can look at. Love the "vehicles", love the motion of the thing, the illusion of flying and falling while flying, of taking off. It mystifies me how they can create those feelings!

If going with a little one who only recently made the height, keep an arm on them. They tend to slip down. I was warned of that while in line, and it indeed happened. Now I pass the knowledge along.

I love it.

I love Star Tours!! It is one of my favorite rides.

I have loved Star Tours from the first time I rode it. It makes me a little sad that it doesn't seem to be a "marquee" attraction anymore (i.e., the lines are not as long as some others). I do think it could use a bit of an update (maybe some new scenes?) but I loved all the Star Wars movies and I get the same feeling I got at the end of the first movie when we successfully navigate back! I really feel like I've been to another universe . . . .

One warning--don't go on an empty stomach--the one and only time I ever got nauseous on the ride was when I went on it without eating for a long time.

It was my moms first ride EVER at DL.. and we almost killed her with it! She was not pleased with us. But the rest of us LOVE it!

It's a modern "classic", though it is a little bit dated and needs to be updated...hello, 3 new films - an entirely new trilogy, and we're still headed to Endor. 21 years of "going the wrong way!!! Brakes, brakes, where are the brakes?!?!?" Sorry - getting a little wrapped up in it...

ST had an absolutely AWESOME opening party - 60 hours of fun. Lines wrapping in and around TL, and then snaking all the way down, and up, and back down MS... that was fun. My brother and I went and enjoyed that party!! It is a very fun ride.

How about the ride that previously occupied the ST spot, Adventure Through Inner Space? I loved the giant eyeball and the magnifying glass. I hear the magnifying glass is still in there as a tribute and can be seen but I haven't figured it out yet!. The best thing was Paul Frees, of Haunted Mansion fame voiced the ride, best voice-over voice ever!

Star Tours is cool, it just needs some Lucas love injected into it. The best part is the non existant lines (if you were at DL right now it would be a walk up situation, no line) and the que line is great the first few times no doubt.

I like it but I'm not a huge fan of the enclosed-simluator rides like ST at DL and the Mars Mission at Epcot, both are a bit too stuffy for my tastes. Simulator type ride give me a Soarin' type over the oxygen depleted sardine can rides like ST and Mars.

Don't get me wrong though, I am a fan and enjoy the attraction!

Oh ya and the opening event was amazing stopher1, such excitement... like when Empire and Jedi were released!

Our family LOVES StarTours. If I were riding it just myself or with a group of adults, I would think it pretty outdated and would put it towards the bottom of my list, but it is my 4-year old son's hands-down favorite ride. He talks about it all the time. Simply because of the joy it brings him and the fact that we're all Star Wars fans, I love to ride it when I'm with the kids. While I think the ride is very tame (boring for some adults, perhaps), my 6-year old daugter is scared of it. I guess it really depends on who you're riding with and what you hope to get out of the rides (thrills, the pleasure it brings others, etc.).

Oh yeah - that was incredible. I totally remember (catch that '80's speak?!? ) 1983 and waiting for Jedi to come out, and then practically my entire high school going to see it at the Eagle Rock mall (I went to a small private school, so it was possible!). We filled the place up completely. Everyone was so anxious to see if Han survived the carbonite and what all that "Luke, I am your father" stuff was all about!! My kids think I'm just wierd!

The magnifying glass IS there... when you have gone the wrong way, and dropped down into the maintenance bay, just before you go out the doorway into space - look down and you'll see it sitting on the floor like some big piece of equipment... I love that they included this - and you can see it in WDW where ATIS never was!! Ahh going on the cheap and simply importing film attractions between parks instead of plussing them or revising them for their "new home"... some things never change.

I LOVE everything about Star Tours. Once I walk in the door I am overwhelmed with the amazing queue and the great ride. I especially love that the queue has a lot of things that people can read or look at. I could wait in line for an hour and not feel bored like most rides I've waited for. It is a classic and a favorite in my family.

I loved Adventure through Inner Space!
Star Tours is wonderful..I do wish they'd update it though.
And I'm sorry..but I miss Captain EO

Needs to be MAJORLY revamped. It's such an old ride and the graphics and motion simulator are so outdated. With all the new Star Wars stuff they could really make it WAY better.

I used to like this ride but now it's old and outdated, they need to make a newer version or take it out and replace it with something else.

How does Stat Tours compare to Mission to Mars?

Because Mission to Mars was a big YUK for me, and I have never done ST before, but have been thinking of putting it in my must do list.

Star Tours is a 100 times better than Mission to Mars--you definitely need to try it!

Our family loves Star Tours. Especially my DS 8 (Ryan) who is autistic. It's his FAVORITE ride. He's been to DL 7 times and has been on Star Tours 140 times!!!

Maybe they'll update it someday, but I hope they don't ever get rid of it. Ryan would be truly heartbroken if it wasn't there. I'd have to find a way to get Disney to give us one of the simulators.

My DH really enjoys that ride so I go with him. The ride always make me feel queasy. But, I am sensitive to motion sickness. I just close my eyes or try to watch the walls (not the screen) when it gets a little rough for me.

Ok, so here's a question--does anyone know how they get that "forward" motion to feel like that? (when you go to lightspeed?) I understand being in a simulator, just am not sure how they produce that sensation of forward movement . . . it's totally awesome! (Valley girl speak--even though I don't live in the Valley . . . . )

My DD decided this last trip (her birthday trip) that STAR TOURS was her favorite ride. We rode it a couple of times each day, even with a LINE (we are not "line" peeople!)

It's a cute ride. I'd love it if they updated it or at least had 2 "versions" so you never know what trip you were going to take or something.....

I think Star Tours is a little out of date, but a classic. Not quite as elaborate as some other rides at DL and makes my mom motion sick (moving screen, you move in your seat). If you love Star Wars though it's a must.

I have to admit when it first opened up, having nightmares of C3PO down below in the pre-show area...but I was a strange child (still am strange).
