My boss was describing this odd rash that he gets whenever he is stressed, or out in the sunlight. I KNOW that I have seen someone else mention this on the boards, because of the abundant sunlight in Florida and at WDW.

He really wants to know what this could be, and I told him I would ask the members of this forum for help.

I've read about this from one poster somewhere on these message boards. Can anyone help???
:confused3

He would appreciate any insight into this oddity! Thanks! :worship:

I get a rash too from sunlight. It is called photosensitivity and is basically an allergic reaction to UVB rays. I make sure to wear a sunscreen that specifically blocks UVB and UVA and I do great with that.

I get the same rash at WDW if I don't apply sunscreen. It also happens if I try to get into a tanning bed.

I get an awful looking rash which is the result of taking HCTZ ~ I use a 50 sunscreen and still get it but not as bad ~ mostly on arms and legs. I think there are some medications that make you more prone to it.

I get it. My MIL, who is a nurse and teaches nursing at a college, thinks it's heat rash. I get it in the sun and when I'm stressed. It doesn't really itch or anything- it just looks horrible. Sometimes it gets prickly feeling. :sad2:

I get a rash in the sun. It looks like poison ivy, and I get it just on my arms. I was diagnosed with subacute cutaneous lupus. It's a dermal-only form of lupus that they diagnose with a skin biopsy, but apparently it has the potential to become systemic lupus. It can itch, but usually it doesn't. I find that if I put sunscreen on over it, that's when it tends to itch.

The tricky part of getting a diagnosis was getting into the dermatologist when the rash was active.

There is also a form called discoid lupus, that causes the same rash, but results in scarring. Thankfully mine don't scar!

I would agree with heat rash, I would also mention the possibility of him having some sort of AI(auto-immune) disorder and would get it checked out!:goodvibes

My first thought was auto immune, because my daughter has juvenile dermatomyositis. Lupus can cause this too, I think. But the AI diseases have other symptoms along with the rash. And the JDM rash is so itchy it is unbearable.

My son gets one to and was found to have an allergy to UVB, but if your Boss is on any medication it could be a side effect from that as well.

My DS started with some type of thing this summer too. His face and neck swelled up with a rash, really itchy. He saw three different Docs and got three different answers. It went away and then reaccurred. Final visit thought Solar Dermatitis and he has stayed out of the sun ever since with no reaccurance. Not sure where to go next but thinking allergist? Any inout appreciated. How do we handle keeping out of sun at WDW?

Another possibility to explore is Polymorphic Light Eruption (PMLE). . It is an allergic reaction to the intense rays from sunlight -- for me personally, Benadryl helps to prevent outbreaks.
