UGH.

My high school guidance director fails. Miserably. Epically. However you want to put it.

She gave all the seniors (well, those who weren't on the band trip) packets with scholarship information on tuesday. She said "I waited so long because I wanted to have as many scholarships as possible in this packet".

Well, her waiting has cost a lot of kids.

Because she waited, one deadline passed- for a $6000 scholarship.
Because she waited, three are due tomorrow and all require a transcript, a letter of reccommendation and an essay.
Because she waited, seven are due on the 1st of March. With the same requirements as above.

We're talking around $10,000 in scholarships here that most kids won't get a chance to apply for now. The kids on the band trip didn't get their packets until yesterday.

Epic fail. I'm so ticked off. And yeah, I wasn't going to rant about it, but I've just missed a deadline (well, as of 5pm tomorrow, I'll have missed a deadline) because of her failing to get these to us in a timely fashion. UUUUUGGGHHH!

Omg Patti that SUCKS! I'd DEF be reporting her to the superintendent. That would piss me off like no other?
But did she seriously wait this late? I was already informed of scholarships as recently today. Then again, I'm a planner and ask about this stuff all the time?

I'd be royally ticked.

I agree with Sonya, I'd be off talking to someone higher up.
When it comes to my future, no guidance counselor is going to keep me from that.
She should have kept an updated list of them in her office or something.
We get grad newsletters here, so everytime one is given out, there's new scholarships listed.
It's basically a guidance counsellors job to keep up with those things, and deadlines being important.

I've asked off and on for about a month. I got one packet (local Dollars for Scholars stuff) and have almost finished getting that together.

But...ugh. And all the kids she "guides" have major issues with her. Apparently she isn't focused and if you go in with a question (like about something on the College Board website), she just walks you through what you already know and then sends you on your way like its nothing.

I'm so glad she's not my personal counselor. Mine is waaaaaay nicer (she's actually the best one there- and that's a consensus, not a personal opinion).

And I feel kinda bad because I begged Ms. Pierson to get me two copies of my transcript before the end of the day (the last hour and a half of classes) so I could get this out (I'm missing a teacher rec form, so I can't send it in and unless I drive down to Concord [2.5 hours] tomorrow, it's not getting in on time) and she did. I owe her candy. But now I don't need them. So I feel bad about making her do all that extra work.

urg. I was thinking about writing a letter to the editor, but I don't want to be on the guidance **** list at this point of the year. And the superintendent is a douche himself, so he wouldn't do anything. I don't live in the town my school is in, so I have no say or voice or any affect on the school board's opinion. It's so stupid.

I'm so sorry. stupid incompetent people...do you mean Concord, NH or another Concord?? I swear if I could help I would..Uhh I'm really sorry....

We have a lame guidance counselor as well. My friend was telling me how her sister went to her for something about a scholarship, I don't remember what it was, and the guidance counselor never did what she said she would. She told her she would do it later. So she never got the scholarship.

I didn't mean it in an insulting way Patti. It's just that, well I have no patience ;) I'd be all over it like white on rice everyday until I had that app in my hands.

That's exactly how my guidance counselor is.
Luckily, I'm in this group called the University Program, and we get special attention from specific academic advisors.
I've only visited my guidance counselor once. She's no help.

Maybe you can ask a teacher who really likes you and sees your potential to advise you?

But that's just a really frustrating situation. I'm sorry:hug:

My guidance counselor is great. The one I'm complaining about is my friend's. And she's the one in charge of everything.
