Rant: The new Costco milk containers

Ours has always sold the square one, or the second picture.

I like them. They fit into the fridge better and they seem to stay fresh forever.

I was worried that this thread was saying that they are changing FROM the square one to the traditional one.

I have never seen those around here but if they are taller than the traditional ones I would not be able to put it in my fridge. I don't keep my milk on the door.

Yes--they are awful. Hard to screw on the top and it always spills a bit.

I buy milk from Aldi when I can.

If you don't like the milk jugs, please let Costco know! They are very responsive to customers and if enough people complain, they may go back to the normal style jugs.

Ours sold those in the squarish containers for a brief period a few years ago, but we are now back to the regular gallon jugs, and I must say it makes me very happy. I hated the block/square things. Apparently, though, it had something to do with shipping, and that because they packed more compactly, you could ship them easier. Shrug. I'm just glad they gave up on that idea in our area.
There was a point several years ago where our Costco in Nevada went to those weird square containers - I started buying milk elsewhere.
Our Costco here in Central Texas uses the standard gallon shape and I'm back to buying milk at Costco.

Costco milk tastes funny to me, so I generally don't buy it. But ours has the traditional gallon containers.
Same!
It spoils so fast.

And my 11 year old cannot pour without spilling when it's full. Weirdo, I knowhe has no problem with any other jug style!

I know this is an older thread and I found it by being click baited at the bottom of the page. And - I doubt these threads would be there if Disboards didn't design it that way.

But I want to share my Costco milk 2 cents: We've had design number 2 since our Costco opened and I have disliked the seal immensely. Spilling and splashing, ugh! I did learn to take a sharp knife and cut a bottom hole and a top hole in it to avoid the splash.

But guess what? Just this past week, when I picked up a couple of gallons I discovered a change in the seal - it now has a 'pull' on it! Easier to get off! However now my two hole pouring trick no longer works, so full cartons will be back to splashing on the first pours!

You bet, clicks are cash to a commercial website. Advertisers don't track if the click is a post that is 15 seconds old or 15 years old.

Ahhhhh the taste of zombie thread in the morning... MMMMM

You bet there is a Pirates of the Caribbean joke in there somewhere but it is FAR too early for coherent though yet...

When I saw the picture of that square design I actually LOL'ed. Like who would design something so ridiculous!

I have no doubt that I would be spilling that container every time I tried to pour. I have a hard enough time not spilling from a regular shaped milk jug when it's brand new (I'm small and lack the leverage and strength to tip it when it's that full).

Someone who wanted to minimize the amount of space it took to ship the milk?? Is that the point of the square containers? No wasted space in the trucks?

Don't buy cow's milk, it's gross.
I wonder where Costco gets their milk. It taste terrible. I bought milk at our grocery store called Piggly Wiggly and I bought their brand and it tasted horrible too.

Wawa fat free milk tastes a lot better than the other milks around me. I’m guessing there’s no wawa near you thou so your out of luck. I drink fat free.

Probably - based on the way it's usually in the cooler, it appears like it ships pretty compact on the cardboard pallets.

We actually have a milkman! We get three gallons delivered once a week, rain, snow, or shine. It costs the same per gallon as what we paid for milk in Hawaii (about $4.50), so we really did not feel the difference when we moved here and started the service. But the cost of never having to 'run out to buy milk'? Priceless.
