Rant: Kids Menu= Horrible Diet

we never order off of the kids meals due to the awful food that is on it. my kids don't like it either.

I don't agree that so many people could care less what their kids eat. I think that people do tend to be more relaxed with their rules on vacation, and that includes what they will or will not let their child eat.

If a kid wants chicken nuggets for 7 days in a row, there isn't any harm in it, as long as that is not their normal diet.

I agree that on vacation its a different story than at home.

I'm talking about in general. I know plenty of people who are concious, but plenty more who consider fruit roll-ups fruit and let their kids drink soda on a regular basis. I'm a teacher and the things kids bring to school on a regular basis is appalling-chips, cookies, sugary drinks. And the school lunches are only slightly better, though not as horrible as in some locations. These are kids of all income levels. Again, childhood obesity would not be at epidemic levels if parents were more concerned about leaving junk out of their homes.

If my daughter wants her nuggets on our vacation, so be it. Disney (or any vacation) is not a place to worry about food choices, within reason of course.

I haven't read this whole entire thread, but with the original post, I just want to say I agree 100%. We were very disappointed that a huge place like WDW has such poor selections for kids.

We don't eat at TS meals, just counter service.

It is really hard for us. I am a chef and my children have grown up eating really well. But on the other hand my 11 year old can eat burgers everyday if you let him. Our 7 year old is our foodie. You stick hard chicken nuggets in front of him and he will have a fit. With that it would be a dream job for me to work with Disney to help them make kids meals more appetizing for the little ones. My kids love to look at Disney food porn and I hate to tell them well that's not on the kids menu so you can have some of ours. I feel sorry for the kids. They are on vacation also. Let them look forward to food. They shouldn't have to settle for PB&J that were frozen and pre made.

Every single Disney restaurant offers at least one, sometimes more, appitizing and/or healty option on their kids menu.

I just don't understand what all the drama is about. If your kids are so traumatized at the thought of having to eat the kid's meal and won't eat the kid's meal, just buy them an adult meal. Yes, I know, it costs more, but Disney can't individually cater to every single family's delicate palet. They are a business and their goal is to make the majority of their customers happy and to make a profit for their employees and shareholders.

Have to agree, Disney is naturally going to cater to the majority...for most kids it's a treat they don't eat out everyday so they enjoy eating it while on vacation..

Not saying healthy food should'nt be an option but most kids don't want carrot sticks, and celery at disney world.

That is ridiculous! They don't have to settle for anything. Just buy their meals off of the adult menu!! No one is forced to buy anything!

I have to agree. If it gets to that point it is more the paren'ts fault the child can't eat what they want than it is Disney's. That pretty much equals saying "I'm too cheap to buy my kids the meals they would really want, so I will place the blame on Disney so that I feel better about it."

Honestly the meals at WDW are so huge I have no problem sharing with another adult. I can't see why someone couldn't order and entree and share with their child.

My last trip was with my mom and sister. We shared a meal about 4 times a day. The portions are huge.

Personally I think Disney is good in at least offering us choices that are not french fries. I do hate that the CS kids meal selections are so one choiced. For example the taco stand in Adventure land is just Quesadilla. This is not necessarily a bad thing unless your kid is allergic to milk. If you ask them to do a one taco kids meal or something similar because of said allergies they just give you a blank stare. Since that incident I always bring PB&J sandwiches among other things in my tote for the kids.

True Disney does not need to cater to every taste bud out there but a second choice is in order at places. Some restaurants like Longhorns do offer at least one healthy choice on their kids menu.

I don't think you can compare a restaurant to a food stand in good faith. There is no way they can have the same number of choices on their menus.

My DGD went to Disney several times with allergies to dairy and eggs. The CS did a good job of accomodating her but not all were able to. In cases like hers, the parents really need to research their CS restaurants in order to better serve their own child. WDW does a wonderful job of offering choices to people who have food allergies but it is impossible for every food stand to accomodate every person.

DD and I were discussing this thread yesterday. We take Kady out often and always give the opportunity to order from the adult menu and did that at WDW as well. She generally found plenty on the children's menu but if she did nto she got an adult meal or shared one of ours. The cost of the children's plan was minimal and we felt she got at least what we paid for.

THere is no way that every WDW establishment os going to please every individual but there are plenty of choices if you plan ahead.

I think that is a huge part of the problem some people seem to be having with the kids meals. They do no research, and then all they notice are the places that have chicken nuggets. And the chicken nuggets are very tasty, by the way.;) There are plenty of places that have other choices, but if you don't do any research, you may not run across them.

Be proactive. Look at menus ahead of time. Make an effort.

at that point, complaining about free food is a bit ridiculous.

I'm not sure how this is working out for other people but I wasn't on free dining I'm an a bounce back offer that I booked while at disney last year and it actually brakes down to the same price as free dinning this year the difference is I'm paying a small amount more to put the kids on the adult meal plan and adult park tickets. Considering a lot of people are going on free dining I have to say I don't see how they would be paying more if with me on bounce-back with park tickets and dinning my package came out to about a $60 dollar difference.
