Ranger Stan has passed on

Stan Moore who many may remember as being the original Ranger from Wilderness Lodge, actually pivotal in creating and developing the role, sadly lost his brief illlness of cancer yesterday. I was reluctant to post much about this publicly, but did so on the VWL groupies thread as many there had the opportunity to get to know him. But at the suggestion of a fellow groupie, I decided to post.
Stan knew the Lodge inside and out, and he will forever be there in spirit. For me he was more than a CM, he became a friend whom I admired. He touched my life in ways I never knew possible. He was like a 3rd grandfather to me, a friend, a mentor, and a genuine sweet man.

Could there be a better tribute?

Those that knew Ranger Stan would agree that he would not have accepted such a compliment, as he loved the Mouse more than anyone we knew, but sometimes individuals rise above the icons, above the standards, not by there own decry, but by their actions and love for others. For us, he was the embodyment of the meaning of The Lodge.

The Lodge will never be the same.

Participating in the flag ceremony with Ranger Stan will forever be one of my favorite WDW memories. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. He was one of kind.

A few days ago, I was trolling on the theme park forum &some one posted a question asking advice on how to ride TSM 3X's in one day. Op got many replies with different strategies but one line had me sorta shaking my head. The poster wrote her plan of attack and one line said "don't stop to look in the stores and don't stop for the photopass photographers". I remember shaking my head and thinking, "you miss so much of the simple pleasures of a trip to disney".

Ranger Stan was one of those simple pleasures. I know as a dvc'er I am extremely blessed in that I know that there is a pretty good chance I will be back so I can't really criticize any one's touring style but I'm really glad that I took the time to stop and chat with this amazing gentlemen. He epitomizes what makes Disney "different" than many other vacation destinations.

The Ranger Stans and the Art the greeter, over at the BC are what I think of when people say the "magic" of WDW.

Stan was such a kind and gentle man, who fulfilled Will Rogers' vision as a man who never met a person he didn't like. His friendliness, faith and passion are traits that are not always extolled in our society today. He really was an incredible ambassador for Disney, and touched many lives in a positive manner. We'll miss you, Ranger Stan.

I'm so glad you posted this picture! A certain someone, who shall remain nameless (initials are TP ) gave me a wonderful mug (I almost typed mig! Hanname) when we met last Dec with Ranger Stan and a group of wonderful Groupies. Yesterday I was re-arranging my cabinets and Bing! There it was! I drank my java from it today.
