It was nice to hear Pete mention Randy Pausch in the podcast (though I think he may have had the name a little wrong).
He was a prof at Carnegie Mellon University until they moved to Virgina to be closer to his wife's family. I highly recommend his book "The Last Lecture". It's a quick easy read full of little life lessons.

He tells one story about how he went to Disney World as a child and bought a special souvenier and how a Disney cast member made some magic when he accidently broke it. I don't want to ruin it for others who might read it, but he eludes to the old Disney service versus that he got that day and the new Disney service we see lately. It rang so true.

His webpage is still up at http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/
You can link to his "Last Lecture" video (76 minutes) from that page.

Itunes has the full last lecture and time menagment lecture in it's itunes u section

I'm bringing this thread back because of the announcement today that "Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios President Ed Catmull will receive the first Randy Pausch Prize from Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center."

"We couldn't think of a more fitting person to receive the first Pausch Prize than Ed Catmull," Don Marinelli, co-founder and executive producer of the ETC, said in an announcement. " Eleven years ago, when the ETC was just a vision that Randy and I were trying to make a reality, Ed generously shared with us his thoughts about how to prepare students for the new world of interactive digital media. His suggestions, including the idea of having everyone in the program study improvisational acting, were priceless. He helped us make the ETC a place where right-brained and left-brained individuals can work together successfully."

I too enjoyed Pete mentioning him, I often talk as if I am there, and I said oh oh don't foget Randy's part in Disney Quest... and I was so happy to hear Pete was right there with it. :thumbsup2 There are few amazing people like Randy, when you find one, you want to learn from them. I learned a lot from him :)
