Well I would assume so, depending on the heat. You know that if you put a glass of water in the microwave, it can explode upon impact? Unless there's an impurity (such as a chip, a scratch, an object, etc.) on the glass, the water will heat up but not boil because there's nothing to form bubbles from. When you touch it, the surface breaks and bubbles all that once, causing it to explode.

Well, it's scolding hot water boiling up in seconds and splashing out over the cup and hitting anything close to it. So yes, pretty dangerous. Look it up on YouTube. It's called superheated water. You'll find plenty of examples.

Oh, there's also something called supercooled water. It's the opposite of superheated water. Sample principles, but on impact, it freezes up in seconds.
