Primeval Whirl features 13 colorful cars that whirl past flying asteroids and corny depictions of dinosaur cut-outs that spin and pop up along the track. The spinning coaster takes guests on a wacky time warp back to the prehistoric era on a twisting track of tight loops and short drops . . . with a final descent into the gaping jaws of a giant dino fossil.

Dino Sue is an exact replica of the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found. More than 90 percent of her bones have been accounted for. The replica is 40 feet long and 13 feet tall.

Named after fossil hunter Sue Hendrickson, the 67 million-year-old skeleton is one of the most famous fossils of the century because it adds tremendous information to what little is known about the species.

During her lifetime in the Late Cretaceous Period (67-35 million years ago) Sue weighed seven tons and measured 42 feet in length, making her the largest T.Rex yet discovered.

The replica of Sue, excavated in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1990, is fittingly on display in DinoLand U.S.A., at the entrance to DINOSAUR, a high-speed attraction that sends guests back to the age of the dinosaurs.

INTERESTING FACTS

* Chicago's Field Museum purchased the skeleton at public auction in 1997 with financial support from Walt Disney World Resort, McDonald's Corporation, the California State University system, and private individuals.

* Following its discovery, paleontologists from the Field Museum began work on preparing the bones for eventual exhibit in Chicago.

* A large part of the bonework was actually done "on-stage" and in front of guests at Disney's Animal Kingdom by a three-member team from the museum.

INTRODUCTION
The Boneyard is an interactive playground for children, similar to Honey I Shrunk the Kids at the Disney-MGM Studios. It is located on your left as cross under the 50-foot-tall brachiosaurus and enter DinoLand U.S.A.

ATTRACTION

Basically a place for kids to blow off some steam and cool off in this "Dig Site" playground. The flooring is a spongy mat-like material to prevent bad bumps while the children have some fun.

There are lots of things for children to climb on, over, around, and through (like this Spill Chute).

Your kids can discover the bones of Tyrannosaurus rex, triceratops and others from the dinosaur age.

INTRODUCTION

Finding Nemo - The Musical marks the first time Disney has taken a non-musical movie and transformed it into a musical show for the parks. It's an adaptation of the Disney-Pixar movie, re-telling the story of a father clownfish, Marlin, and his son, Nemo, who learn how to love and understand each other. Nemo is taken away and Marlin will stop at nothing to get his son back, facing undersea challenges such as sharks, jellyfish with his new, ever loyal, friend Dory. Meanwhile, Nemo is trapped in a fish tank in Sydney, and makes his own new friends who inspire him to do whatever it takes to see his father again.

ATTRACTION

Finding Nemo - The Musical gives guests the chance to be literally immersed in the story of Marlin and Nemo through the combination of puppets, dancers, acrobats and animated backdrops. It's performed in the now enclosed Theater in the Wild in DinoLand U.S.A, the former home to "Tarzan Rocks". The theater itself was updated with innovative lighting, sound, and special effects to create Nemo's undersea environment. Like the Broadway version of Disney's "The Lion King", the audience sees the performers as well as their puppets throughout the show. Check out the Photo Gallery for a better idea on how the performers and their puppets appear.

Not only does the audience get a chance to see the well loved story in a new production, but they enjoy the original songs written just for the show, including "Big Blue World", also heard at The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot, and Crush's big number, "Go With the Flow", a tribute to 60s surfing music.

This show lasts approximately 30 minutes and is performed at several, scheduled times each day. For current show times and more information on Disney's Animal Kingdom Live Entertainment, visit Steve Soares' WDW Entertainment Website.

INTERESTING FACTS

The Theater in the Wild holds 1,500 guests and is the largest theater in Disney's Animal Kingdom. It opened with the park on April 22, 1998, and was originally an outdoor amphitheater with its first production being quite a different type of show. Journey into Jungle Book featured songs from the hit Disney movie and created a new style of puppetry that gave the animal characters a look of fantasy while still conveying life-like realism and emotion. "Journey into Jungle Book" closed in April 1999 and was replaced with Tarzan Rocks!, a live musical based on the Walt Disney animated feature, "Tarzan". The production combined a rock concert performing the hit songs from the movie, with gymnasts, in-line skaters and aerialists giving the energy and action of the characters' story. It ran from July 1999 to January 21, 2006. The Theater in the Wild was then shutdown so it could be fully enclosed and renovated with upgrades to create Nemo's environment.

Finding Nemo - the Musical involves a number of Broadway's best! Tony Award-winning director Peter Brosius directed it, with Michael Curry, who designed puppets for Disney's successful stage version of The Lion King, serving as leading puppet and production designer. The original songs are composed by the husband-wife team of Robert Lopez, Tony Award-winning "Avenue Q" co-composer-creator, and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, co-creator of the a cappella musical "Along the Way".

Finding Nemo - the Musical was announced at the April 7, 2006 Grand Opening of Expedition Everest. It held previews starting November 5, 2006, and opened on January 24, 2007. Read the AllEars® Team reports on the previews.

Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade opened October 1, 2001 as part of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. It currently runs each afternoon (time varies but usually one hour or so before park closing).

The parade lasts 15 minutes (approximately).

Starts at the Tusker House Gate at Harambe Village. It winds through Disney’s Animal Kingdom and returns to the Tusker House Gate.

Concept:
With all the sights and sounds of an outrageous island street party, Disney characters have come to town on expedition with a wild, whimsical, larger-than-life tribute to their animal friends.

Design Elements:
The procession consists of individually designed elements that bring a variety of heights, colors and abstract animal visuals to create a fun, theatrical showcase for the Disney characters. The elements include:

five character-based safari vehicles,
four drum sculptures,
three rickshaw taxis,
eight animal puppets,
16 Disney characters,
10 Party Animal stiltwalkers, and
10 Party Patrols. The eight abstract animal puppets were designed by Michael Curry Designs in Portland, Ore., which created the puppets for “The Lion King” on Broadway.

Music:

The main musical score was written by Disney Show Director Reed Jones and Music Director Dan Stamper, who was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on Super Bowl 2000 in Atlanta. All musical arrangements were orchestrated by Gordon Goodwin and recorded in Los Angeles.

Costumes:

“Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle” parade costumes were designed by Matt Davidson. The prototypes for the puppeteer costumes were crafted in Africa by native artisans. Parade costumes were created at Walt Disney World Creative Costuming, Parsons Mears in New York, Costume Armor in New York and Vegas Costumes in Las Vegas.

Performers:
Features 60 cast members including performers, drivers and coordinators.

Highlights:

As “Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle” winds through the park, a menagerie of abstract animal images comes to life in fun, theatrical designs handcrafted from an eclectic mix of natural materials and fabrics. Soaring animated puppets and towering percussive drum sculptures create bursts of living color against Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s dense jungle greenery. Elaborate rickshaw taxis put selected guests in the middle of the parade, accompanied by Disney characters in customized musical safari vehicles. A troupe of 8-foot-tall Party Animals and energetic Party Patrols interact with guests and direct them in the creation of the live call-and-response sing-along music fest.

Up to 25 spectators will be selected daily to ride in the opening unit, three guest rickshaws and the finale unit. Guests will be given Kodak disposable cameras so they can capture the special moment aboard the parade.

Adventure Rover -- This opening rover is a brightly colored red, orange and yellow safari vehicle. It carries the beloved Disney character Rafiki, from the Disney animated film “The Lion King.” Rafiki rides with a guest family, which is selected daily to participate in the parade.

Character Jeeps -- These three jeeps carry several of the most famous of all Disney characters including Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. The vehicles and floats are themed to the personalities of each character. Donald’s jeep pulls a float painted in various hues of blue with a sports and nautical theme. Minnie’s jeep and float are painted with her signature red and white polka dots adorned with a big red and white, polka dot bow. Goofy’s jeep and float feature a hodgepodge of items, ranging from oversized snowshoes to a pair of pajamas.

Bon Voyage Caravan features a brightly colored jeep carrying Mickey Mouse. This jeep pulls a float consisting of several different safari-themed segments. The float carries Mickey Mouse and a guest family, which is selected daily to participate in the parade.

Viewing Tip: In addition to the myriad of characters participating in “Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle” parade at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests can see Disney characters including Pluto, Baloo, Louie, Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear, Timon, Terk and Chip 'n' Dale. I have a tip for people going to see Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom. The parade does a loop through the park. There is a portion of the route (near the Safari entrance in Africa) that the parade goes through twice (at the beginning and end). If you get a spot here just before parade starts, you can watch it go by once and then wait ten minutes for it to come by the other way. After the first pass, most guests leave and you have your choice of front row seats without having to line up an hour beforehand. If you have both a still camera and a video camera, this allows you to use both cameras and get some great pictures! Jenn

Looks like I might be seeing Harry Potter tomorrow :teeth:

I do love the new furniture for VFK. It perfectly fits the new rooms, which are also amazing.
