Well, our long-awaited trip is now complete. I think we're hooked. I cannot imiagine going to WDW and not wanting to stay at FW. Here ar some random thoughts, in no particular order:

-I was worried about the internal buses, thinking they would be very confusing. No problems at all. I think the longest we waited for an internal bus was 10 minutes. Usually one pulled up as soon as we got to a bus stop. The nice thing was that since we got on the bus at Settlement, we could ride either orange or yellow to the Meadows pool. That saved us time too.

-We were in loop 200 at site number 227. The walk to the Settlement area was maybe 10 minutes with the kids. I wish they had a path cutting though from 200 to 100 like they have from 100 to the Settlement area. That would be my only thought on how to improve our walk time, which again, was very short anyway.

-We did the campfire one night. Sundee was there. What a trip! The kids loved it! We didn't have snacks or anything, just hung out and sang songs. We only got to meet Chip, but that was ok because the kids had already seen both Chip and Dale at The Garden Grill in Epcot.

-Check-in looked like it would take forever with all the campers lined up, but they were very efficient. We waited maybe 30 minutes. They had no problems adding our additional guests on to our reservation. They couldn't add the people coming half way through though. We had to add them when they arrived. At which time, the reservation had to be redone completely. Paperwork on WDW's en d, no problems on ours.

-The Meadows pool, whicle nothing fancy, suited our family just fine. It really wasn't too crowded at any time. We went there at all time of the day.
I was worried about all the golf-cart stories I have read, but no problems here either. Every golf-cart we encountered gave us the right of way and watched out for the kids.

-I did laundry twice while we were there. No waits on washing machines or dryers, which surprised me.

-Also no waits for showers either. I think one day all of the showers were full when we arrived, but before we could even putour stuff down to wait, people came out and in we went. The restrooms in the 100-200 area were amazingly clean.

-We had take-out from Trail's End when we arrived. The chicken dinner for 4 was more food than we could eat. We also had the dinner buffet at Trail's End... yum!!! No one left hungry. We had a drink (or more LOL) at Crockett's tavern. It was crwded, so we ordered our drinks and sat outside in the rocking chairs under a fan. So relaxing. I had the mudslide BTW. Delicious!

I guess that's all of my random thoughts, for now.

We were there 2 weekends ago and probably saw you. Great report. Glad you got to meet Sundee. She will now remember you 4ever.

As far as check in goes I always try to be in early even if it means having to park in the overflow and grab lunch or ride bikes around the fort. I never seem to have luck checking in because they usually don't keep many lines open.

I am glad you had a good time and we were also hooked the first time we went to Fort Wilderness.

The chicken dinner to go is very good, we get it a couple of times during our stay. It is alot of food for the money. Makes great leftovers after a tiring day at the parks.

We have to wait until December to go. Time goes so slow.

I think the longest we waited for an internal bus was 10 minutes.

We must have been there at the wrong time which was only three weeks ago. One night after eating a late dinner at Trial's End and after a brief thunder shower we waited for the Orange bus to take us to our loop, 1300 by the Meadow Trading Post. We were just too stuffed to walk the distance. We saw three busses come and go for Wilderness Lodge and two each of the Yellow and Purple busses. After a twenty minute wait in the terribly humid night air we gave up and walked. We finally saw an Orange bus but it was headed for the Settlement. Never saw an Orange bus headed toward the Outpost during the entire walk. Similar situation 5 nights later headed from the Meadow Trading Post towards the Settlement for Dinner at Trail's End. Another twenty minute wait, with a handicapped gentleman and his wife, after a brief thunder shower. Again, we gave up and walked to the Settlement in the terribly humid evening air. This time we made it almost to the end of Fort Wilderness Trail when here comes the Orange bus. I thought about stepping out in front of it to make it stop but DW held me back. I wonder if there is some rule that says the Orange bus can't operate for 30 minutes after it rains.

I was worried about all the golf-cart stories I have read, but no problems here either. Every golf-cart we encountered gave us the right of way and watched out for the kids.

Boy, you lucked out on that as well. I think during our week at the Fort they rented to every available idiot. I wish Disney would enforce its own rules. We saw many underage drivers at all hours. The worst was when DS and I were walking to the pool. It was dark and I'm guessing the driver and passenger were in the 18-20 year old range. He comes over the canal bridge, from the bike barn, at full speed and whips around the corner of the Meadow Trading Post on two wheels and kept going. Luckily we saw him coming and got off the sidewalk but if there had been anyone behind us they would have been flattened. Then there was the bright individual who tried to take a shortcut between some bushes towards the Meadow Trading Post. You could see the tracks in the grass right up to where he ran into a ditch. I half expected to see the cart in the water. I'd say the most well behaved were the folks who brought their own golf carts.

Wow, I hadn't planned on ranting. Sorry. I'm glad you had a great time at the Fort. We did as well, all things considered, and can't wait to get back.

We have already planned on our next trip to try out the chicken take out dinner from Trail's End, there is one dinner planned! ;)

I can't believe they have not resolved that area over the bridge.....accident waiting to happen ( oh yeah there was an accident with a golf cart earlier this year).....:sad2:

Thanks for the random thoughts mary.............:thumbsup2

I don't think you'll be sorry with that decision. It is one of our traditional meals at FW.

Sounds like you had a great time! Now it's time to plan your next trip. FW is an addiction you know!

Yea, we have never gotten the chicken take out before, normally we just had too many other items already planned. I made sure that this year we took one day out and planned it, now I just gotta make sure I bring my hot sauce ;)

Let me just say that after returning two weeks ago, I sure do regret not getting the take out chicken. I will make sure we don't miss it next year. By the way, that is one of the things we love most about WDW, there is always something new to plan and look forward to.

Now, about those personal owned so-called golf carts..............:rolleyes1
