Random question - Laundry baskets

This really is silly and random. What kind of laundry basket do you use? We just got a new washer this week (Top loader) and the lid is glass. DH does not want it to get scratched up. Our washer & dryer are in a closet, with no floor space to store the baskets, so we store them on top of the washer & dryer. This means they get slid back & forth, and have even scraped the white paint off the top of our dryer in spots.

I have been looking for an alternative to the traditional plastic baskets that won’t scratch the glass top or paint. So far I have landed on a rope basket: 635286

Any other suggestions?

Edited to add: I should clarify, the baskets I’m looking to replace are only used to transport clean clothes back upstairs. We each have our own hampers in our rooms for the dirty/damp stuff.

Silicone. The issue with a woven one like that is that it's going to be a germ/mildew incubator with all those little places for the critters to hide. Silicone can be cleaned easily.

This one is available from Ikea.

Yes, the only way I would even remotely suggest a fabric basket is if you absolutely never put anything damp in your hamper and even then only if it has a removable fabric lining that you can wash regularly.

This is a great question and have never thought about my glass top washing machine and scratching! Just went and checked it. LOL No scratches. LG over 5 yrs old…

635306 Me & DH have 4 of these hanging in the bedroom closet. 1 for cold wash delicates, 1 for warm, 1 for underwear & socks, & 1 for whites. Then when clothes are done from the dryer I hand carry to our bed or living room sofa to fold.

If you're transporting only clean, dry clothing then I think a woven or cloth one would be fine. But if there's any chance that wet things will get into it, go with something non-porous. We had a woven one in our downstairs bathroom that got all the used, damp bath towels. It got mold.

I use traditional plastic laundry baskets because my laundry is in our basement and looks don't really matter.

But I use the one you have in your post to hold throw blankets in our living room and love it for that :)

Wow - I have a glass top washer and never once thought of this! I'm going to look right now....

Just looked. Fair bit of scratches. 6 years, never noticed until tonight! LG Wave Force washer.

I say use the baskets you have already/want to.

My laundry basket is plastic......that's what only clean laundry goes in. It sits on top of the dryer when it is empty.
Like this, but I just have one

My laundry hamper is 3 cloth sections that hang on a rolling cart.
One for colors, one for whites, one for bleach whites

I was thinking maybe you could get some clear contact paper to go over the glass to protect it, sort of like you’d do with a smartphone? Change out if it gets scratched? Or go with the silicone basket.

We have 15 laundry baskets in my house. My children are famous for living out of the laundry basket rather than put the clothes away. When all the baskets are full and not returned to the laundry room my father resorts to large cardboard boxes. My children know when the cardboard boxes are used they are in deep, deep trouble. It is amazing how quickly all 15 baskets will be returned to the laundry room. We just use the cheap plastic ones and have not had any problems with scratches on our new washer and dryer.

I put small bathroom throw rugs on top of my washer and dryer. I've always done this just to keep them clean.

I can honestly say I have never every thought about the tops of my washer/dryer getting scratched lol

We keep laundry baskets (hampers) in the bedrooms only. When doing laundry, the empty one sits outside the laundry room in the hallway waiting for the clean clothes to take back to the room to be put away (our laundry room is very tiny, with a stacked washer/dryer). We each have a hamper in our room closet and that's where they live.

That’s how we roll too. I don’t have separate laundry baskets and hampers, so that I don’t have to store anything extra. Everyone has a basket (plastic) on the floor of their closet that they throw dirty clothes into. It gets carried to the laundry room to do laundry, waits for the clothes to be done, and then carries clean clothes back to the appropriate room where it waits to be unloaded and reused as a hamper.
