Courtyard posted a pic on Facebook today of metal detectors at DL doing random checks. Wonder if this is a new permanent addition?
(Sorry if it's a repeat post - I didn't see anything but I'm on my phone)

There are some articles about this online today. It's a new policy started today at WDW and DL in the wake of the Paris and San Bernadino attacks and the government's recommendations for heightened security/vigilance during the holidays. I'm thinking it will persist beyond the holidays though. Other theme parks like Universal and Seaworld say they will be adding metal detectors and additional security as well.

Yes, they are going to be using Metal Detectors on a regular basis now, but not everyone will be going through it. They will be selecting people who they think needs to go through it. They have also stopped selling toy guns

They've said people who wear multiple layers of clothing will be subject to search.

I feel like this could open them up to a discrimination lawsuit; you know how litigious people are, especially toward Disney.

I'm sure they have their reasons for why only some but it isn't too much for everyone to go through...guess they don't want it to turn into an airport waiting line

This is bound to happen.... people well undoubtedly feel discriminated against, targeted, etc.

I understand not wanting to turn it in to an airport line, but everyone is subjected to bags being searched, so I don't know why having every guest walk through a metal detector would make anyone feel more violated.

I hope this includes the bubble guns. I'm so tired of kids shooting bubbles at me and having the bubbles film-up my glasses. Makes it hard to see where I'm going.

We were at DLR when the SanBernadino situation occurred. We noticed the increase in security before we learned about it.
Once were there the outside world fades away for a few days.

Thank you Disney for keeping things as safe as possible for everyone!!

According to the post on this topic on MousePlanet, yes, it includes bubble guns. I cheered when I read that as I too have never been a fan.

I wonder how long it will be before DLR starts receiving spittle-flecked letters from people saying it is crazy to force them to disarm before entering the park, and it is their god-given right to enter Disneyland while strapped in case they need to take down some terrorists or defend their spot on the curb for the evening parade.

Boy, if everyone in the country who thinks it is a good idea to take a gun to Disneyland decided to boycott DLR, that would do more to make the place safe than the metal detectors themselves.

I read that the bubble guns are no longer being sold :) I hate those things.

I heard about this on the radio this morning and it doesn't bother me one bit, tbh. I know Disney goes through a lot to try to keep the parks safe and I appreciate that.

Hubby and I both conceal and carry, but would never stomp our feet at the gates to Disneyland as we are not allowed to carry there. I'm sure it won't take long for people to start doing that though. Always have those extremes in every situation.

Just saw on the evening news that WDW and some other, lesser parks ;) were installing them as well.

Right. No one who conceal carries that I know will through a fit over it. But yes, there are the extremists who will throw a huge fit.

The one good thing to come out of this is no more :ssst:ing bubble guns. If any of these new bans end up being temporary, I hope that one stays permanent.

On touring plans it says that guests over the age of 14 will not be allowed to wear costumes including the not so scary halloween party!
