Hey! I was wondering if anyone had any advice or recommendations about wheelchair ramps. I am getting ready to get a powerchair, not a custom one, just a center wheel base type. We need a way to get it in and out of our minivan. We don't want anything permanently mounted yet since my needs could change relatively quickly.

I've seen some ramps online, but I thought some of you BTDT folks may have some advice. Do they really need to be as long as they recommend? My dh would "drive" it up the ramp unoccupied, so does the angle matter that much?

Thanks for any help! Take Care.

We used to use a 5 foot folding suitcase ramp to get DW's chair in our van. We had a Dodge Caravan andthe ramp would fit behind the seats on edge without a problem.

I have used the same 5' suitcase ramp to get scooter in Ford Windstar, but it is steep and a power chair is harder to go at such an angle than a scooter and even that is not easy, plus the power chair is higher even if seat is folded down then a comparable scooter. Measure your chair folded and see if you have the height to get it in.
