Ok, here it goes........... We decided this year we were gonna take a 2 week vacation to the Fort as our 1st/last trip of 6 days was waaaayy too short.
Our dates were from 8/16 to the 29th. The Travelers were, DD21, DS11, DD9, DD5L, DD5K, DW, Rohan our Saint Bernard and myself.

We left home our usually 2 hours behind schedule at 9am. I was quite frustrated with trying to get everyone to help with the last minute details but in the long run, a 2 hour delay worked out well since the mechanics would be awake by then!
Last minute details.. Load the golf cart, remember to make sure the trailer is hitched to the RV before you drive up the ramp and onto the trailer. Yep, I forgot this small detail. Give me a little credit it was the 1st time I was towing a trailer any distance and I was trying to rush. I would soon learn to sloooow down. Well the cart made it onto the ramp but could not make the 90 degree angle to get up the trailer. The front of the trailer went straight up in the air nearly taking out the rear window.:lmao:
After a few minutes of not cursing cause the kids were around I was able to get the cart off, the trailer hitched and the cart on the trailer the right way!:worship:
About 15 miles into the trip we started smelling something coming from the Motorhome?. I pulled over did a walk around of the RV couldn't find anything. Popped the hood, climbed under, nothing unusual and no more odor. About 5-10 more miles we pulled up to the traffic light of a busy intersection, hey where is all that white smoke coming from?? I hope no ones car is on .... oh heck that's our car!! The front driver side caliper was frozen and burning up! You shoulda seen the looks of the people pulling up next to us!! :lmao: I don't want to know what my face looked like, let alone DW's (I never looked her way)!!! :rotfl:
I pulled over and called our mechanic at Millers Automotive, they work on all of our cars (including the RV) and all the cars at work as well. I was able to get Keith on the phone and described the problem. He already knew our plans and agreed to come in on his day off. I let the brakes cool for about a half hour then drove to Millers, about a 10 minute drive, but 20 while limping a motorhome!!;)
Keith got there, he determined that I needed a new caliper (his dad had already ordered it by the time he got there). When Keith went to order the parts guy arrived to delivered the caliper. About 1-2 hours later we were on the road. Oh did I mention that Keith's brother Kevin came in to help fix the RV. He tripped while working on it and (I later found out) he broke his finger on the side of the RV.
So about 12 noon we are back on the road...WAY behind schedule.
Smooth sailing now......I hope. We had planned on a stop at South of the Border on the way down for a few hours sleep. Since we were so far behind I drove till about 2 in the morning and we found a Wal-mart in South Carolina. Did I mention that Shan-man ( I think that's who said it) was so right about South Carolina's portion of 95. Well the best word that comes to mind is suck. That's how the roads in SC are they S*#K! We pulled into a Wal-mart that was about 5 miles off 95. I went in and talked to the manager to ask if we could get some sleep in the parking lot. Sure no problem but you might want to be sure you got a club near-by. WHAT:scared1: I got 4 daughters my son and wife in the RV. After everyone else was sleeping except DW, I slept 3 hours in the driver seat (note that my duty gear was not far away!;) )
ON ROAD AGAIN, Can't wait to get back on the road again.... sorry. We were back on the road about 630-7am we pulled back onto 95. Made a pit stop shortly after for a break for the dog and I. At about 830 or so..... POP (with a swaying in the back of the RV).:scared1: What was that??!! Flat tire passenger side. Ok no biggie. I changed 2 of those tires last trip to Disney!

There she blows:

Around 930 or so we were cleaned up and back on the road again...
Did I mention that SC roads are the worst!!!. Last trip down our 1st flat was just into Georgia. Things that make you go Hmmmmm

Shortly after the flat I found a tire repair place and for $26 had them remove the old tire and put on the 2nd spare we brought with us. It was just the tire without a rim. (After last trip I wasn't paying over $200 for a tire).

About 30 miles or so into Georgia, a tractor trailer merged into 95 in front of us. He was already traveling pretty well as he pulled in. CRACK... wow ....what was that?? Hey I don't remember that crack in the windshield. Yep. Stone came up hit the windshield and it cracked. Ok, that's 3 right?? Can't be more than that, always comes in 3.

Man did it take forever to get to the Fort but we finally made it. Site 322.

Note: Pics of the site were taken in our 2nd week.

This site had tons of room, We could have set the tent up as well if we wanted to. We could open the awning all the way too. Last time we were on 324 (I think) and could not get the awning open all the way because of a big tree.
By the time we were set up it was dark, but guess what... the jacks were not deploying like they were supposed to, had to get my floor jack out and jack up the front of the RV, manually put the jacks in the down position and have DW push the up button for the jacks while I held them in position. So around 1030pm'ish we were done.
Ahh bed time... at last!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
Our 1st full day (monday 17th) we spent around the Fort. Was nice got everything set up took a few laps around the Fort in the golf cart then took a few more.
DD21 was only down for the 1st week and she had 4 day tickets to use up. The rest of us had 8 day no expire with water park and more options.
DD21 spent monday thru thursday in the parks on her own. She would go with us to two parks. DD21 flew out of MCO on Friday afternoon and was able to get the magical express.

We would do one day in a park then a day off.

Tuesday we did MK for our 1st park.

Just inside, guess who we found in Main Street.

I have many more pics that I took. But unfortunately my digital camera died. So I had to resort to my phone and an old fashion film camera :sad2:(2 weeks till I get the disk and pics back from Wally world)

We decided to start in Frontiertown where it was less than 20 min waits for Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

We never made it into toontown fair or tomorrowland. We will start there next time we go back and besides Space Mountain was shut down.

IMG_1196.jpg

Oh yeah.......
DD5L decided on our way home for lunch to use mom's camera to take some pics of the Main Street Philharmonic.
IMG_1191.jpg

Then she was asked to perform with them while waiving the flag they gave her and several other kids. DD5L is the one in the Green shirt and purple shorts.

So there is our 1st 4 days of the trip. Part two later!

Sorry for all your problems but it sure makes a good story. I am not sure why but when you read about other peoples disasters its just funny.:confused3

Oh make no apologies, it's darn funny.. oh there is more. I just didn't have time to post 2 weeks worth tonight!

Great report Rog ! :thumbsup2
No apologies, but what a start on yer trip ! Bet it'll be memorable, :rotfl:
The first steps onto Mian Street never fails to thrill me to pieces,(brings out the little girl in me, :lmao:)
Sounds like ya'll had'a great time,,wait'n for part two, popcorn::

It seems most good vacations have some sort of craziness along the way. I'm enjoying your TR and can't wait to read some more. popcorn::

Oh it's doesn't stop there! :confused3
There is more trouble along the way!!

I will type up part 2 later today!

Wow, I always say a prayer that I don't have mechanical issues while out on the road. One issue like that would be a bummer to me...but THREE on one trip! And you say there's more to come?? I'll stay tuned in....popcorn::

May all your WDW difficulties encounted to date be all you ever experience. I don't think I have read any report with as many issues. The only saving grace is that you are at the Fort

Paul

Got around to typing this a little sooner then I expected but... Hope you enjoy.
Wednesday the 19th a day off...

We slept in till 9am or so. Did some traveling around on the golf cart, went swimming and then fishing. Careful looking at the pictures of the fish.. it may hurt to look at!
I was a little upset with the employees at the Meadow Trading post. I went in and asked if there was anywhere to buy bait for fishing. I was told they always recommend to use hot dogs. She said the fish love them and everyone uses them! So I bought the outrageously priced pack of hot dogs so the kids could fish only to find later that right across the bridge at the bike barn they sell outrageously priced worms. Course I didn't know about the worms till the end of our fishing trip.
The biggest catch of the day...
0819091501.jpg

I had to help DS land this baby. It was a fighter.:rotfl2:

0819091508.jpg

It was after the 3rd small catch like this that everyone started to get bored and want to do something else. It only took 2 hours to catch 3 small fish. Of course hot dogs don't stay on the hook like a good worm. So I throw back DS's catch, I had to use two hands it was so heavy and a young boy and girl show up with a little white Styrofoam bucket of WORMS. 10 minutes after they get there the young lad lands a good 12-14 inch bass. OH I am not happy now. And that is how I find out that the worms are at the bike barn!!! They are sold in Mickey dozens 10 for the outrageous price of 12.
I am so mad about the worm thing that we pack up and go back to the pool, I didn't even wash the hot dog or fish juice from my hands, I just pushed my way to the front of the slide line and slid in!:goodvibes Darn kids were fighters and wouldn't let me through!!

We decided on take out from Trails End. Got some giddyap and Go. Refilled my mug. Oh yum it was good chicken. And the fires were awesome. I got some buffalo wings for DS. One Giddyap and go and an order of wings was enough to feed all 7 of us and was a good deal for the money.

Thursday was AK.

Well I guess I am getting paid back for pushing all those kids out of the way on the slide. I have sun poison all over my back and shoulders. UHG it itches soooooo bad:sad2:!!

We had a good day there. Fast passes for Everest and we were set. Got on Dino with a 15 min wait, Tough to be a bug was walk in and the safari was about a 20-25 min wait. Went to see Nemo and a trip to Rafikis's Planet where we ate our packed lunch and spent time in the petting zoo.
We unfortunately never made it into Camp Minnie Mickey before the end of the day.
It was a hot day. Glad ice water is free!! We got many of them!

Friday was another day off. Picked up the rental car went grocery shopping came home and tried to find a place for it all. Was pleasantly surprised to see a grocery bill for 6 people under $200. That was 2 shopping carts full.
Got DD21 set up and off on Magical Express.
Did some more traveling in the golf cart and exploring. The golf cart was awesome on this trip and I won't go again without it!
Oh did I mention that DS and I brought our bikes along to do some riding together. Took the bikes off the trailer and both had flat front tires. I checked them before we left and they were fine. So no bike rides for us. I wasn't patching flats on the bikes on my vacation. I AM NOT CHANGING ANY MORE FLAT TIRES!:rotfl2:

Saturday we went to Universal. I had met up with some real old friends on Facebook that I grew up with and we made plans to do universal together. I ran into Keith in Japan while we were both in the Military and ended up on the same base. He was temporary duty to my base for a week. That was back in 90 or 91. I haven't seen Keith or his brother since 1985 with the exception of that one week in Japan.
We liked Universal, Lines were pretty good, 20 min waits for most rides. DS was happy to have big Roller Coasters and some good water rides. DS had burnt his leg on the motorcycle several weeks ago. Pretty bad burn and his Dr said he was not allowed in public swimming areas for fear of infection for 6 weeks. His time on "no pools" had expired Friday.
IMG_1239.jpg

I told you girls to stay off the Ropes or your gonna get hurt!
IMG_1226.jpg

Thats Keith's DD with my DD5 and DD5.

After Universal we all went to T-Rex for Dinner. This was some good food in a very cool place. But it was quite expensive!! The portions were HUGE though. DS got the Country Fried Steak and it was hanging over both sides of the plate and these were not tiny plates. I had a half a chicken which was a pretty big chicken!! Food was very good and I will go back again when we have more time. We waited an hour and a half for a table. Keith and his Brother, Marc had to drive back to Ft Lauderdale that night too.

0822092137.jpg

This was the fish tank at the end of our table. Did I mention that this place was pretty cool inside? How about the fact that it was EXPENSIVE?!
0822092203.jpg

The kids were beat by now and we carried the twins to the car!
IMG_1249.jpg

Sunday we found that DS had got a blister on his burn and it had ruptured... not good. We will have to call the Dr Monday morning to see if he can go swimming.
We went back to Universal for the day.

We even went fishing and finally caught a big fish!
IMG_1264-1.jpg

This was a cool little gizmo, wish they had these in Disney.
IMG_1265.jpg

IMG_1234.jpg

DS was bummed, we couldn't go into Islands of Adventure and do the water rides till we heard from Dr. That meant no Roller Coasters too! But I think he enjoyed the place. Went on The Mummy Roller Coaster a 2nd time and He was able to get in the front seat.
The big roller coaster in universal was "Rock it" (I think). The lines for that coaster were always at 120mins plus! I think We saw it one time at 200 minutes. :scared1: Needless to say, We didn't ride it. We also noticed that it did not run consistently. I think they may have had technical problems. Looked fun though!
When we got home we found that Rohan still had his leash on. Oh that is not good. Someone forgot to take it off. He had managed to walk around under the table several times and in doing so wrapped the leash around it at least 3-4 times. When I opened the door out he came with the table leg in tow. Oh this ain't good. Were we gonna eat now!! He ripped the table leg, screws and all right off the table. Well it's not like he's a little pocket dog. He weighs about 120 now!
This was also the time that we noticed that the toilet did not like the new TP we were using. It was clogged and it stunk BAD. I didn't have the little wand to clean out the toilet so had to fill the toilet with the hose 3 times to finally get the clog free. So much for RV two ply in our toilet!!

Ok so that does part 2. There is still more and the table and the toilet are not the end of our trip! :lmao::lmao:

Next episode is hoop dee doo, Call to Shawn's Dr, Epcot, broken bones, Hollywood Studios and the trip home if anyone wants another laugh!

We are new Rv'ers and are going to the Fort in October from MI. I'm hoping to learn more from your trip report.:)

Never a dull moment with The Ram Family. :scared1:

I hope you had some fun along with the disasters. popcorn::

Frank could have told you about the worms at the Bike Barn. :lmao:

It's always better to learn from other mistakes and mishaps then your own!!

We are fairly new to it too. We bought ours in 2007. Be sure to replace ALL of your tires if you buy a used RV!! That's part of my issue with the tires!

Here are some critters we found around the camp ground!

We found this guy hanging around the camper. He was getting a drink out of the water hole next to the RV. Rohan was very excited to talk a walk ever night to try and find this guy. Every night he was around. The water is actually from a leak under the pad.

This is a turtle behind the campsite. I am pretty sure it's a snapper but I am no expert on turtles. The head of it looked to be bigger then my fist.
IMG_1260.jpg

DD5K decided to feed two ducks, they came back the next day with their friends. I got so annoyed with their lack of discipline I made them stand in formation and wait for their turn!! :lmao:

We found this guy while we were on our way to the bus stop for DTD. He looked a good 12-14 inches long. I had to hold DS down to keep him from chasing it!! :lmao:
IMG_1332.jpg

This little fluttery thing was lucky I found it before the girls. It was stuck in the screen room. I freed her!
IMG_1315.jpg

DS was the master lizard and frog catcher while we were there. If you couldn't find him you just looked into the trees to find him hunting! Here is one of his catches and he took several pictures of it!! :lmao:
IMG_1399.jpg

On our last night in the Fort, DW was walking from the pool to the cart parking area when she happened upon a snake in the walk way. She sent me a text about finding a snake and where she was. I couldn't get there fast enough knowing she had the kids and the poisonous snakes around. I was right to be worried, must be my instinct. It was a Coral snake all wound up on the walkway. DW said they almost stepped on it and she stood there keeping everyone away from it till they could find an employee. Well they found the employee, he threw a towel over it, picked it up and threw it in the woods. Now that's not the way to get rid of dangerous snakes around our kids. He said before he picked it up that they usually call pest control but my guess is he was on his way home and did not want to be bothered with waiting. We did not get any pictures of it! He also confirmed it was a coral snake and that it was a very dangerous snake!

Well, I hope that snake is long gone by October or doesn't have anymore kin around.
As for our rv..it is as new as we are to Rving. We are campers from way back except we have never camped at FW. We've taken 7-8 trips since Memorial day and went as far as Cedarpoint in OH from MI and the rest of our trips were all a few hundred miles from home. This will be an adventure for us.
I hope you have a much more uneventful trip home.

You will have a blast I am sure of it. I like to make fun of my own problems and issues. It helps prevent the build up of stress!
As for the adventure, that's the best part of it. Ok whats gonna go wrong today!!! :goodvibes

Ram you should have sent this story to National Lampoon. The dog and the table :lmao:
