Has anyone been here? I have a friend that wants us to visit. She will be working for a portion of our stay so we would be on our own for a few days. She is new to the area and travels a lot for work so she is not too sure of things to do. Would it be a fun place for a family to visit for a week?

Personally, my family would be bored out of their minds spending a week in Raleigh but your mileage may vary. 4 days tops.

I’m from Charlotte, bf. I’d say Raleigh is mainly just museums and maybe an ice hockey game. If you were willingly to drive to outside of Raleigh you may have better luck, for example some good college basketball. It would all depend on when your coming and what you like. But I’d say it’s pretty boring

If you're willing to drive 2-3 hours outside of Raleigh a few times to get to some more interesting things, maybe. Beach, New Bern, Old Salem, Charlotte, Williamsburg, NC zoo.

Totally agree! I'm an hour from Raleigh and groan loudly if I have to go there for any reason. Boring town and laid out very poorly.

To be very blunt, I'd rather have a root canal than spend a week of vacation time in Raleigh, but if I **HAD** to go there, 2 days would be it.

Thanks for the replies, even the sassy ones LOL!! It would not be my first destination choice, but we are mainly going to see our friend. We would be willing to travel a couple hours for day trips so we may look into that.

Sure! It will be 3 adults and 3 kids 11, 12 and 14.

It’s not where you would want to purposely book a vacation but it’s not as bad as the purgatory that it sounds like on here! Lol!

Tree runner adventure park- they have zip lines and ropes courses!
Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh
Natural science museum...this place is awesome and many times they have live animals in a room where scientist are studying them

This time of year they have a outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Raleigh. Afterwards try Morgan street food hall. It’s a cool food court with local restaurants and craft beers!

The beach is two hours away as well.

Durham museum of life and science.
With your oldest being 14, you may consider looking at the universities. You could go to the UNC planetarium at the same time as checking out that one. If you're into outdoors, Raven rock state park is nice.

What beach is two hours away? That was another idea or mine. I was looking into Outer Banks for a day trip, but not sure how far.

Wilmington NC....Kure beach, Carolina beach and Wrightsville beach. The Outer Banks are beautiful but they are about 4 hours from here. The mountains are about 4 as well.
