I was just looking at my DS's arm and I noticed a ring on it. I looked closer, and it is a white raised bump with a bruise ring around it. Not a red ring---but a bruise colored ring. He says it doesn't hurt or itch, he didn't pinch it, didn't get hit there, and just noticed it right about then. It doesn't seem to be affecting his behavior or appetite---but it looks really weird. The ring is about the diameter of a nickel--and the raised part in the middle is his regular flesh color.

Anyone know what that is----could an insect bite cause bruising around the bite?? I

Sorry I don't have a clue, just wanted to get this back to the first page for you. I would definitely watch it to see if it changes any and if it does I would have it looked at.

that was my first thought, an insect bite ...
good luck finding out what it is... just keep an eye on his behavior..

Sometimes it doesn't take much to cause a bruise and how many times do you see a bruise on yourself and think "where did I get that?" Are you in a place where Lyme Disease might be an issue? I would take a picture of the mark just in case and then call the dr and see if you need to take him in.

Get him checked out. A bullseye can be a sign of Lyme Diseaese. Probably not but I'd want ot ruled out.

If it is a bite, a bruise around it can also be a sign of infection.

Hello,
being just down the road, I would realy think about tick's. Do you have animals, has he been around animals, been in the woods? Don't want to scare you but better to be safe than sorry. 1-800-888-551 Ask a nurse.

My first thought was that it is from a tick and that it could be lyme's disease. I would get it checked.

I thought Lyme's right away too. My brother had a big bruise on his leg, not a ring or bullseye but a giant bruise out of no where and it ended up being Lyme's. He was put on antibiotics and is fine so I would call the MD just in case. Better to be safe than sorry! :wave2:

do you live in an area with brown recluses? if the skin starts to necrose sp? it is a brown recluse bite or infection.

My first instinct was a Human bite.. was he around any other little kids? Sounds like what a bite from a little "friend" might look like.. and if he is that age... they sometimes do that to one another.... Just another idea. Hope he is okay!

This is what I'm thinking too!

My first thought was Lyme disease from a tick bite... you should bring him in today to either get treated for it or rule it out... sooner the treatment starts the better he will fare if that is what it is...

Ringworm??

My DD had something like that on her head, the doc asked me if we had cats, and we do, they gave her medication but the thing kept growing, so they send us to a derma and after some lab test, it wasn't ringworm, so they gave her other medication and the thing is gone, thank god.

Definatly take him to the Dr. today. My son had a bulls eye on his arm a couple of years ago, it didn't bother him, not itchy or anything. I brought him in to the Dr. that day and it was Lyme disease. Put him on antibiotics for 3 weeks, and he is fine!
Good luck

First thought was Lyme disease when you said it was a ring. I would take a picture of it and get him a doctors appt. ASAP. If you catch it early, they only need antibiotics for a few weeks and then they are fine. Also look on his stomach/torso area to see if there are more rings (these can get quite large).

i vote for ringworm. in the healing stages it looks exactly like you described. clear center, bruise colored outer ring. no itch.

unfortunately i know this from personal experience. :(

i've had lyme disease and my bullseye was very itchy and inflamed. i'm not a doctor though so i definitely think it's worth a call to the nurse.
