Raise Your Voice: Guaranteed Booking Categories at SSR

I just got my email from him a few minutes ago.

I am sure everyone else that wrote in will get the exact same response.

But hopefully they will take it seriously.

Yep. Just received my reply as well. A typical form letter. Maybe if they receive enough letters from members they will at least discuss the matter a little. We can hope right?

Personally, we prefer... room ready.

just curious (not being combative- truly just curious) at your home resort BWV- do you wish all the rooms were the same number of points and they were not categorized into standard/prefered/boardwalk view- the way the resort was originally set up- You just get whatever room they give you at check-in giving non-boardwalk owners and late bookers an equal chance of the BWV rooms-- or do you like the guaranteed room categories there.

I just read this in another thread, posted by LIFERBABE:

I, for one, would love to be able to book a dtd view or even just guarantee CP.
If you agree that guaranteed views/sections would be an improvement please let the powers that be hear from you. Send your own letter off to DVC Member Satisfaction at DVCMemberSatisfactionTeam@disneyvacationclub.com

It can be very simple- such as:

I would like to show support for the idea of changing the current room assignment procedure at Saratoga Springs to a system where guaranteed views and/or locations are reserved on a first come/first served basis at the time of booking.
Thank You,

thanks, wish it was a bit more, but what can you do

why is that? you prefer to go on vacation and leave it up to chance as to which area you will be in?

as far as I can tell theres only 2 types of dvc'ers can would want that:

1) those that dont care which area they are in, which means this change wouldnt matter to them anyway

2) those that dont/cant book in advance but can arrive early--and something tells me if room area was that importnat to them they would probably fnd a way to plan ahead a bit more

The two are not exclusive of each other by any means, esp in a resort as large as SSR. No reason they can't assign rooms within a category by room ready or even offer you rooms in a different category that is either not full those dates or in less demand overall. Since I don't see this as decreasing the chances of getting a room on early check in, the only advantage I can see from a member standpoint to note having direct booking is to be rewarded if not a member at that resort and/or one who doesn't plan ahead. Both groups who should get lessor preference in my book.

Nope. Room area is important. No I wouldn't find a way to plan further ahead. The first part, yes though. Like I said earlier, selfishly, I simply don't want the change.

And I know family life/jobs/location/desire to make it difficult to get there early. I know. And I'm not suggesting DVCers should have to or want to by any means. But I do believe in the end, despite issues, it's a choice. It's the "can" not choose to that's jumping out at me. Saying #2 group "can arrive early" isn't the truth in my case. We simply choose to do that because of the change to "room ready" and its evil sister "early bird often gets the prettiest worm". And Lord knows it's not pretty mid afternoon when we left home at 3:30 am.

And like I said earlier I understand why you all want this. But I don't.

Yes, besides arriving early to make the odds better, I do.

I've had some wonderful surprises this way. Not at SSR per se. But I've found areas of other resorts I never would have wanted, or requested, but ended up to be gems. At SSR, not area, but I always ask for high floor. I hated the thought of ground floor. I got ground floor once and it was so beautiful.

Obviously, it's chance. And chance means some poor locations/views. But in eight/nine stays I've only received one room that I didn't think "wow". Lucky I guess.

Maybe I'm looking at the bigger picture of more SSR owners who aren't willing to plan their lives around the 11-month magic date, but who just might want one of the "better" rooms.,

I don't want one of the better rooms as you call them but as we fly in from the UK and never get there till mid afternoon or early evening being able to book a particular room at the time of booking would appeal to us my wife is in a wheelchair and not always have we got the room we needed

That's likely not necessary, esp now that view and location are the only main components left. HA units are actually hard booked if you need one so that's out of the mix.

This is not actually true as we have found out more than once

What part are you disagreeing with? That HA units are hard booked or that there are precious few variables in general that suggest a true room assigner is overkill given the limited number of variables. We do know that HA units are hard booked if you go through the steps to do so by DVC contacting special services, there are certainly risks if you omit the last step but not one that a room assigner would likely decrease.
