The company can only see the last 4 digits of your card just like you see on the screen. I run credit cards in my business and in order to provide secure transactions once the information is entered into the screen and you go to the next screen NO ONE sees your information other than the company processing the card. It's all electronic and the IT part of it is way over my head but we made the change about 5 years ago after an employee used a customers CC number. Even I as the business owner can not see then entire card once you save it.

Just because they mask the first 12 digits doesn't mean that it isn't stored in a DB. If you can see the last 4 digits of a card rest assured that the other 12 and expiration dates are stored as well.

Some of the security questions they asked (pulled from “public records”) had me struggling. For example, when is your aunt’s birthday? I’m sorry if it makes me a bad niece but I don’t know her birthday. She never celebrated or talked about it and we’re not that close. It’d be easier if they had asked for a copy of my driver license.
