Well, in light of the tropics, I want to be prepared for our week at HRH which begins next Friday on the 21st and I wonder, what rainy day tips some of you veterans might have for us. I know A LOT can change between now and then when it comes to the tropics (I lived in NOLA when Katrina blew thru), but I am going prepared with lots of ponchos, etc.

I am just wondering what things we can do to stay busy and still have fun if we can't go to the parks at all for a day or two. Things that may not be advertised or that I haven't stumbled on on the DIS or in books.

Thanks!

Thanks for asking that...I am wondering the same thing for this coming week.

If you don't mind getting wet, you can still go to the parks in the rain. The roller coasters won't run in the rain, either will Dr. Doom, but most other rides will be up and running.

I figured as much, but wondering if there any hidden gems out there that might be fun too :). Heck. Maybe the rainy days will be out IOA days since I plan on getting really wet there anyway. DD LOVES water rides. The wetter the better. Me, not so much, but I"m game!

i go to the parks in all types of weather.

i encountered the after mass effects of one hurricane in orlando.
it poured a L.O.T. and for hours.......ugh

i did HHN on a Saturday night and was soaked for the most part of it.

rain does not keep me away from the darkside.

in keeping with your topic of the thread, i suggest taking ponchos, small umbrella, wearing the quick dry tops and shorts and undies, wearing sandals or any shoe that won't hold water and spending the rainy day at the studios.

the studio side has more rides and shoes indoors.

take in a movie at the cinema at CW if it is a passing storm.
take in a long lunch/dinner at the hotel or CW.
watch a movie in your hotel room.
explore the other hotels on site.
shop in the stores and cw and hotel shops if it is too wet for you to be in the park.

i probably have the same suggestions that most others have.

Indoor Skydiving
Disney Quest
Wonderworks
McDonald's (largest arcade in the world somewhere in Orlando)
Movies

Or, if there's no lightning.... go to a waterpark!!! You're gonna get wet anyway.

The coasters will run in the rain but not when a lightening strike is reported within five miles of the park. Riding a coaster in the rain is very painful and not recommended...at least by me. ;)

McDonald's (largest arcade in the world somewhere in Orlando)
It's on the corner of Sand Lake Road and International Drive. :thumbsup2

What's Wonderworks?

Last summer, we encountered a wicked storm but still stayed in the park (IOA)
We did Spiderman over and over, Cat in the Hat, walked around the cool caves and such in the Jurassic Park Play area, the tiki torches were lit and they was a freaky mist all over the place. Also could still do The Mummy
We were hoping to get on Ripsaw Falls, but they never re-opened it
But we did get on The Hulk, it was just misting out at that point and there
were no more thunder/lightning

But it was freaky, there were no lines and we were the last ride of the night so when we pulled back into the station, it was only the team members there waiting for us. Very cool, love, The Hulk at night

Don't forget to bring ponchos!!! Have fun! :)

Wonderworks is kind of like a Dave and Busters for grownups. It has all sorts of interesting and unusual things to do. It also has the 'outta control' magic and comedy show. The magic is quite good, the unlimited pizza is awful.

Thanks for all the replies. I have plenty of ponchos, had already packed our quick dry clothes, keens & tevas. I'm too lazy to drag an umbrella (cause I'll be the one stuck carrying it). I'm ready to have fun no matter what. I can explore and shop all day if I have too and DD will play in the rain all day if she wants too. I learned that Busch Gardens/W'burg this week when we got stuck in a rain storm. We just stomped thru the puddles ;)

Yep, but I have to ride by myself cause of all the wimps in the fam :)

My fam and I recently came back from a week at Universal and had a blast. The first day we went to the Studios and for about an hour and a half, the sun was out and only a few clouds. After riding Jimmy Neutron, Twister, Shrek and Mummy, the downpour began. From about 10:30am to 5:00pm the rain came down and down. We were lucky to have enough ponchos for everyone. The good thing about visiting the Studios on a rainy day is that all the rides are indoors. Since there was no lightning, JAWS continued to run. The lines were not overbearing, no longer than 30 minutes. Since all the queue lines are indoors, we were safe from the rain.
One day when we were at IOA, the skies got dark and it thundered. All of the rides, aside from Cat in the Hat and SpiderMan, were closed due to the approaching weather. About a half-hour later, the skies were blue and all the rides re-opened, with only 10-15 minute waits!!!! The rollercoasters continue to run in the rain, unless there is lightning. I have had first-hand experience of riding Dueling Dragons (Fire Side) in the rain. If you are seated on the outside, you will get soaked. It was still fun though!!!
