We are going the week before Christmas. If it's rainy I'm most worried about my 1 year old who will be in a stroller or baby carrier. Any suggustions for indoor areas for us to wait while one parent takes the older kids on rides the baby can't do? Shops are hard because of breakables and grabbing. We will want to do all the big shows all together.

How on earth do you keep the stroller from getting soaked? i'm planning on bringing a cover, ponchos etc etc but I'm still picturing a completely soaked stroller seat.
Thanks!

Ponchos over the top of the stroller are the most common thing I've seen.

There aren't a lot of indoor areas that aren't shops to wait in, but a few come to mind.
  • Waiting area for Mr. Lincoln/Disney Gallery (DL)
  • Main Street Opera House (they play cartoons) (DL)
  • Space Mountain Exit (not indoor, but covered) (DL)
  • Animation Building (DCA)
  • Counter Service locations that are indoors

Yes, there are clear stroller covers that work quite well.

In addition to the above, in DL:
Star Wars Launch Bay and Marvel HQ (opening Nov 16th in the old Innoventions Bldg)
Baby Care Center
Indoor Counter Services: Pizza Port, Golden Horseshoe, Plaza Inn, Village Haus, Hungry Bear (not indoors, but it's completely covered)
Take a ride on the train or the monorail - make the complete loop

In DCA:
Olaf's Snow Fest (if they are doing it indoors like last year)
Indoor Counter Services: Fiddler & Fifer Café, Flo's V-8 café, Smokejumpers, the area around Paradise Garden Grill and Boardwalk Pizza has covered seating
I think there are areas around Paradise Pier Boardwalk that have covered seating
You can also pop into the covered walkways of the Grand Californian easily from the Grizzly Peak area
Take a ride on the red car trolley

Have fun!!

I thought about mentioning the train, but it depends on which way the wind is blowing and where you are seated. I've tried riding the train when it's been rainy and sometimes it's great, but other times you'll get wet! So make sure you know which way the wind is blowing!

We bought a clear stroller cover years ago at Target: It wasn't this exact one but similar and under $20 and zipped - the key was the zipper not snaps that a determined 1-yr old can access

In 2012 when it rained in December we used it with no problem and my DD was exactly 2yrs old and actually entertained by the rain hitting the plastic.
We also had a stroller umbrella similar to these: http://www.diapers.com/html/sg/stroller-umbrella-attachment.html
It's probably overkill, but to us it was worth it to not have to worry about the heavy rain.

Usually Southern California doesn't get much rain in the winter but we're expecting El Nino in California this year. My "secret" place to hide from the rain is under the ToonTown sign where there are a lot of benches and it's near the train which @figment_jii mentioned above.

A great break from the parks if it rains hard is getting hot chocolate in the GCH lobby and relaxing by the Xmas tree. Your DS/DD will probably fall asleep there too if it's naptime. And you can get some warm food at Hearthstone Lounge. Warm and Cozy!! :)
