We have reservations for the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom but now we're considering switching to the TRex in Downtwon Disney. Which is better and what are your thoughts?

Food quality is similar, same type of restaurant, same price range. If you have already been to the rainforest, try T-Rex. They have some cool effects.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. ;)

They are both Landry owned - so the food is similar..huge portions, average food and silly overpriced (even by the Disney coversion rate). :teacher:

The deciding factor should be which theming appeals to your family the most.

My son LOVES anything and everything Dino related..so every trip we make the pilgramage to TRex. We never really love the food, I almost always pass out:faint: when I get the bill and I swear we are never going back. But my kids adore the experience...so guess where we are going (again) in May?

We have eaten @ Rainforest a few times before and really enjoy it. The food has always been really good and the atmosphere is just really neat. We love how the lights dim and it fake rains and all the animals come to life. Just a really cool experience! :thumbsup2

We loved T-Rex and plan to go back. Our last few trips to RFC have been really bad, WDW and other locations. T-Rex's food seemed much better then I remember RFC being, but maybe because it was new and novelty. It is along the lines of Friday's/Apple Bees/Planet Hollywood. But you go for the atmosphere

Does anyone have any pictures to share of T-Rex? We went last time to Rainforest Cafe. Food was good but nothing fantastic there but my dd (age 3 at the time) enjoyed the atmosphere and aquariums the most.

We also did the Crystal Palace last time. We're planning our next trip now and our dd will be 5. What other restaurants do you recommend for her? Plese also tell me which park your suggestions are in as I'm not supper expereienced at where they are at.

Thanks!!!

one more consideration...do you have your own car? Rainforest at AKL is kind of a pain to get to & from unless you're also visiting that park that day. If you're driving yourself, it's not an issue.

Have been to RAinforest CAfe at Downtown Disney (February 2012) and just was at T-Rex on Monday (3/5/2012) The food was good at both places, but have to say the service at T-Rex was SOOOOO SLOW! We were there mid-afternoon, about 3/4 of the tables were being used in the meteor/fire room, the bar area and the ice room...the back room wasn't being used at all. So the place was not jam-packed by any means. However, it still took nearly 90 minutes to eat there. The pacing was really bad. We were sat, and it took about 10 min. for waitress to show up to Take drink orders...the drinks don't show up for 10 minutes. Take entree orders...and we also asked for water. The water shows up 10 min. later...entrees were nearly 30 min after the water (no one special-ordered anything. All straight off the menu, no changes.) And then took 15 min to get the desserts, and though we asked for the check immediately & asked her to process it immediately, it was another 15 minutes before we had the final ticket. Food was good, and atmosphere is fun, but don't think it's worth 90 min.

Rainforest is also fun atmosphere (and basically the same exact food, just "jungle" names on the dishes instead of "dino" names.) Service was much, much faster, even with an added appetizer course that time. Everything was bing-bing-bing. Ordered beverage, it was on the table 2 minutes later. Appetizer showed up about 5 minutes after the beverage and entree showed up about 15 minutes after the app...and she took the dessert order at the time she delivered the entree. Dessert showed up just as I pushed my plate away. Bill was processed on a timely basis. Start to finish, about 1 hour...time enough to enjoy the food, enjoy the atmosphere but not get antsy, lol.

So I'd say if you'd been to Rainforest, go ahead and try T-Rex if you have plenty of time.:thumbsup2

As state above, both very similar food wise. We enjoy both, lean a little towards TRex, but really depends on what your family likes.

T-Rex if you like Chicken Salad their sandwich is so so good :) The Rainforest cafe never really impressed me.

My Son And I Have Been To Rainforest at AK As Well As TRex In Downtown Disney...I Like TRex Better Mostly For The Ice Room Which Changes Colors...It's A Pretty Cool Place To Take Pics Too ! Have A Great Time ! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

when are you going? i love both. was there last week and RF has construction going on. but!, it looks like iet will be great when finished!

We travel with my son and his family and they all love T-Rex. Our last 2 trip we have gone to DTD just to eat at T-Rex and visit the Lego store.

I ordered a gift card for the meal and 1 for each Grandchild. There's a great store beside T-Rex where you can Make-a-Dino. The youngest GS drags around his Dino everywhere.

I also ordered gift cards for the lego store for Grandsons. They love lego's. Especially Star Wars Lego's.

As far as Rain Forest been there done that 2 times. Probably won't return. We enjoy all the restaurants at AK with Tuskers House being our favorite.

The Rainforest Café at Animal Kingdom has something that neither of the Downtown Disney restaurants do: a surprisingly good breakfast. I personally would go for that.
