I hear this is *not* to be missed. Any thoughts on which location is better (dtd/ak)? Is it really worth the hefty pricetag? Is it humid (we have asthmatics)?
Thanks!

I wouldn't say that its not to be missed. The food is good, but nothing spectacular.

Personally, I prefer the AK location. It just fits the park better.

It really isn't very expensive compared to some of the other restaraunts. Its probably one of the cheaper table service places actually.

Its not humid at all. They go all out to make it look and feel like a rainforest, but they don't go that far.

I wouldn't say it's not to be missed either. I mean, for DH and I it was, but we have a habit of eating at RCs and it's like a meaningful inside joke thing for us. I would say go with the one by AK. And definitely make an ADR if you'll be going there!

We go to the one in DTD the first night we arrive before hitting the parks the next day. It's like our vacation starts when we get there in the evening. We love Rainforest Cafe! My DH and DS are asthmatics and have never had a problem. The atmosphere is one of the most memorable there is! You'll love it!!!:lovestruc

If you have never been there it is not to be missed, but we haven't been there the last few years mainly cause it isn't on the DDP. They do have a good variety of food and as for the one at AK or DTD, I would say where ever you are closest to, the AK is newer and right at the enterance to the park so you don't need a park ticket to get in. :cool2::hippie:

We do the same thing, hit RFC the same day we get in, we always make it a point to eat there the first day at DW at DTD. I think the food is good and portioned well, I love it

Definitely a fun meal, awesome theming! I think it is worth the price for the whole experience.

(I know you are asking about Rainforest, and I wasn't going to bring it up, but I can't help it -- we LIKE Rainforest Cafe, but we LOVED TRex Cafe in DTD on our last trip. Sorry, OT!:rolleyes1)

We LOVE RainForest Cafe - it's a must-do every trip & the service has been great every visit and the prices are better than the places inside the parks (more food to share too which can come out to a significant savings ;)). For us, the AK Rainforest Cafe is the one to hit. Don't forget, they serve breakfast too, the kids adore tonga toast (basically a little bit of bread and egg mixed with your pound of sugar HA!) I like it for a lunch break in the summer heat, this year we'll probably use it for dinner.

We visited T-Rex on our last trip and although the theming is cool, we were highly disappointed in our food (and we're not picky!) All 3 meals were just plain bad. Waste of $100. We will not be returning except to shop for charms there again.

Love, love, love the one in DTD. I go there at least once during my trip to watch football and eat/drink at the bar.

One year, when I took my mom, we lucked out and I was showing her around a few minutes after it opened - we got to watch the guy in a scuba diving suit tending to the aquarium - it was sooooo cool.

We have a RC at our mall of america. The food isn't spectacular and it's kind of pricy but that fits right in with WDW restaurants. The one at our mall of america gets musty smelling inside sometimes depending on where you sit. It is REALLY NEAT THOUGH!!!!

Maybe not your concern but RC is not part of the dining plan which I think stinks... :( We might have to pop into one just for a snack.

Do you call in reservations ahead of time or just walk up...
Thanks

My family really likes the food at RFC. And, the smoothies are great too! :thumbsup2 It is always a "not to miss" when we go to DTD.
I recommend the Pastalya - It is so spicey it will instantly clear your sinuses. :rotfl2: Now that's good stuff!!!!!!

We never miss a chance to eat at RFC! We don't have one close to home so anytime we are in a city that does (WDW included) we make sure to go. The food may not be spectacular, but is nothing to complain about either. The theming is just too cool to miss though! I have eaten at both locations at WDW, and didn't really notice a difference in them - I would say whichever one fits your schedule better.

We always make ADRs - you can sometimes get in without one but may have a VERY long wait! Of course they have a really cool gift shop to pass the time in if you do end up with a wait...

We just pop in. Sometimes have to wait, but then we go shopping until it is time. If you sit at the bar they have immediate seating on those animal stools. Kids like that.

We're considering staying at POR. In that case, we might take the boat to DTD and go there. I was just wondering about if there was a dif. in quality of theming, service or food.
Thanks a lot!

This year we made reservations, the two years before we just walked right up with out a problem, my advice make a reservation but its totally up to you:banana:

We went to both locations (DTD & AK) about 5 years ago. We really enjoyed it a lot. Both times we just walked in but we always eat earlier then most. There were long lines by the time we left. The thunderstorm was an issue for my DS the first time around. We have also visited the RFC locally in Mass, once. The food was disgusting. We could not even finish our meals. That put enough of a bad taste in our mouths - literally - that it is not on our list of places to eat this trip to Disney. T-Rex we are thinking about.

Never been to the Rain Forest Cafe at AK but dined at the DTD location many times. Average to above average food, lots of FUN!!! Kids will love the experience.:cool1:
